Square Enix is smashing it with its remakes of Final Fantasy 7, a title that originally came out nearly three decades ago and definitely feels outdated. So, revamping it using modern technological upgrades was a genius move, and as fans look forward to seeing the second chapter of the story unfold on February 29, there’s one celebrity who has been a Final Fantasy fan since the seventh-numbered game in the series was released in 1997.
Being one of PlayStation’s signature exclusive franchises, it’s no wonder that Final Fantasy 7 is Robert Pattinson’s favorite game of all time.
Robert Pattinson Picks Final Fantasy 7 as His Favorite Game
While marketing his Christopher Nolan film Tenet in 2020, Robert Pattinson sat down with GameSpot to talk about the movie and his character, but one aspect of the conversation stood out the most for gamers. Upon being asked if he has a favorite video game of all time, Pattinson’s answer was wholesomely nostalgic, something that a lot of Final Fantasy fans would probably agree with.
It may not have been a well-known fact that Pattinson is a gamer, but Bruce Wayne himself confirmed that he does indeed have a title that is quite close to his heart.
Robert Pattinson is aware of how, before the recent remakes, many people would have picked the original Final Fantasy 7 as their favorite video game, and he wholeheartedly agrees, naming it as his top title of all time as well. It is still not clear if Pattinson has checked out Square Enix’s 2020 Remake, but even after all these years and developments in the gaming industry, the 1997 PlayStation title stands tall on its own two feet.
The Tenet star also mentioned an extremely sad moment from the game that truly stuck with him, and that is understandable because it really was quite heartbreaking.
The Original FF7 Ended up Making Robert Pattinson Cry
If there is one thing that even the non-HD Final Fantasy 7 from all those years ago accomplished, it was having a highly emotional moment that broke many fans’ hearts, and Pattinson shares the same sentiments. The sequence made the Tenet star tear up, who stated that it was “probably one of the only times I’ve cried in my life.”
Major spoilers for the original game and potentially the upcoming remake follow, but it really hit Pattinson “when Aerith dies” after getting impaled with the Masamune by the iconic antagonist Sephiroth.
Pattinson’s answer just goes to show how much impact video games can truly have on players’ emotions, and as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth finally approaches its release date, Aerith’s fate is yet to be seen in full high definition. Unless, of course, Square Enix decides to switch things up and change the story.
Did Aerith’s death in the original game also affect you as much as it did Pattinson? Let us know in the comments!
