Like many of us, the upcoming release of RoboCop: Rogue City is an intriguing one for a few reasons. Do we need video game adaptations of 80s/90s action movies? No, not really. Do we want them? Obviously.
Developer Teyon and publisher Nacon have realised this, with the upcoming release starting to get a marketing push, and in this case, a free-to-play beta test where everyone can get involved!
RoboCop: Rogue City – Dead or Alive You’re Coming With Me
“Become the iconic part man, part machine, all cop hero and bring justice to the dangerous, crime-ridden streets of Old Detroit. Uphold the law by any means necessary: With your powerful Auto-9 or one of the other 20 weapons available, eradicate criminals throughout an explosive first-person adventure.”
Set between the second and third movies, RoboCop: Rogue City will follow Alex Murphy as he attempts to clean up the streets of Detroit… again. This time he’ll be going against a gang known as the Torch Heads, because as we know from watching the movies, there’s always a cool, if slightly illogical name for the gangs and foes RoboCop faces.

It may be a role he hasn’t embodied for decades, but Peter Weller is reprising his role as Murphy, so we’ll all be able to hear his robotic, monotonous threats as we murder police with wanton abandon.
This isn’t developer Teyon’s first attempt at bringing an older action movie to the forefront of gaming, with their previous attempts being the horrendous Rambo: The Video Game and the better than average Terminator: Resistance, so they’re no strangers to creating a world from an action blueprint. If they continue their upward trajectory with RoboCop: Rogue City, it’s fair to say it’ll be one hell of a game, and it’s shaping up that way so far.
RoboCop: Rogue City – The Playtest
You’re probably wondering how to get involved with the play test, or whether it’s just for press and content creators. Good news, it’s for anyone and everyone, no specific credentials required. However, there are still some boxes to tick first. It’ll seem obvious, but you need to be over 18 to be involved, both because of the content of the game, but also the fact you’ll need to sign and follow a Non-Disclosure Agreement. Lastly, this is just for Steam, so no console players can get involved, and for those with PCs, you’ll have to make sure your rig has the minimum requirements needed to actually run it, found on the registration page.
To actually get involved, simply here here to fill out the form and check out those pesky system requirements. If successful you’ll be notified by Teyon and could be playing the game as early as Monday the 3rd of July all the way through to the 9th. As well as playing the game early, the other major benefit to being involved in the playtest is that Nacon, the publisher, will gift you a 30% discount code for when you purchase the game!
