Rockstar Games posted a job listing on its official page, looking for an Associate Writer. In the current scenario, where GTA 6 is gathering a lot of attention and there’s no official word about the game from the studio, we’re left wondering what this role could entail.

Hiring a writer for character dialogue is an integral part of the game development process but at this stage of development of GTA 6? That’s a little far-fetched. On the other hand, this could also mean a new game is in development, but what could it be?

Rockstar Needs New People to Develop NPCs and Environmental Dialogue

In video games, ‘ambience’ can mean a lot of things. These can be elements from the real world that are adapted into the game or created in a fictional background far from reality that makes the entire experience more immersive. Think of all the sounds and dialogue you hear in an open-world game when you’re just aimlessly moving around. According to Rockstar’s job listing, the studio is looking for someone who can write for ‘Pedestrian & Ambient Dialogue’:

Rockstar is on the lookout for a talented writer to work on dialogue for our ambient population. This is an entry-level role that will have you working alongside other writers to create exciting, interactive encounters with our games’ pedestrians.

Furthermore, the listing explains what the writing process is like when you apply for a role like this. According to Rockstar, the writing team works closely with several different departments across the studios. They develop characters, in-game media, dialogue, narratives, world-building interactions and so on. The statement also includes an emphasis on how Rockstar’s work has to push limits to create unique and compelling experiences that resonate with people on a global scale.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the only NPC-related posting Rockstar has at the moment. There’s a listing in the Performance Capture and Code departments as well. These are usually design and development processes that need polishing and are done at earlier stages of a project.

However, there’s no official information to confirm if these roles are meant for GTA 6’s development journey.

The Community Believes It’s Unlikely for Rockstar to Hire Someone to Work on GTA 6 at This Moment

Fans want a new Red Dead Redemption or Bully, if not GTA 6.
Fans want a new Red Dead Redemption or Bully, if not GTA 6.

Few sources are speculating this as a requirement for the end stages of GTA 6, or perhaps future content in case GTA 6 has an online mode or live-service model that will update the game on a frequent basis. It’s been quite a while since we heard from Rockstar about the next Grand Theft Auto, and fans have been waiting for a trailer or teaser that gives us something to look forward to.

Based on a Reddit post in the GTA 6 subreddit, a commenter, TwiliciousREEE, has aptly put their thoughts on why we’re not getting any info right now:

My take on the trailer situation is, that they want to reduce the amount of time between reveal and release, to 1st: Avoid delaying the release post-announcement and 2nd: Avoid intense stress and crunch for the developers. If the devs don’t have the entire world waiting for a specific date, then they won’t be as stressed, I assume. They might only reveal it, if they are certain to keep the release date they will declare.

They could just reveal without a set release date. But that’s most likely not happening.

Some even speculate a sequel like Bully 2 or Red Dead Redemption 3 (another prequel?) to be in the works. But, given the secretive nature of Rockstar Game’s work culture, the community stays open to any kind of unexpected surprises they may have regarding future projects.

It is also important to keep in mind that in the last few years, Rockstar has had major changes in its work culture. Instead of crunching hours and making employees work for hours on end, they’ve made the development/production timelines more flexible. This could mean GTA 6 is still in the middle of its development journey, and we’ll have to wait for a while until we hear anything regarding the game.
