Every cameo in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine—from Wesley Snipes’ Blade to Channing Tatum’s Gambit—was received with excitement in theaters. Tatum’s Gambit was a tribute to the actor’s lost role, as he was earlier chosen for the role in one of the X-Men movies before it was scrapped. Reynolds has now written some great words of appreciation about the actor on his social media.

Despite losing his Gambit role in X-Men: The Last Stand, Tatum has been trying to play the role ever since. Fans wish that they could see him in a Gambit film and expressed this wish in Reynolds’ post about the actor. Interestingly, there’s a possibility that Tatum could appear in future films.

Fans were surprised that Wesley Snipes returned to the role of Blade after the alleged feud with Ryan Reynolds on the set of Blade: Trinity. However, Reynolds himself pens down the importance of another cameo in the film. In an X post, Reynolds shared that Channing Tatum was born to play the role of Gambit.
Remy LeBeau aka Gambit was a role that Tatum had pursued for years. Reynolds could relate to that story since it almost took a decade for his Deadpool dream to come true. He shared that Gambit was one of the largely unexplored characters in the X-Men universe and found his author in Tatum.
He added that Tatum and his character were easy to root for in the upcoming films. Reynolds concluded his post by sharing that Tatum literally pulled Gambit from the dead and brought him to life at the perfect time in the perfect way. The Green Lantern actor’s post read:
Gambit is a guy Chan was born to play. His story is similar to mine in that he spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen. Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal. And Gambit found his author in Chan. He’s… pic.twitter.com/9Hz7qbZ85S

Fans expressed their interest to see more of Gambit in the upcoming MCU X-Men films. Some of the fans shared that Tatum was born to play the character, while others predicted that he would make a comeback in either the X-Men film or Avengers: Secret Wars. Some of the fan reactions supporting the Step Up actor read:

This is the way it should be. Lifting up others around you and hoping they crush it.
Fingers crossed he gets to play the Gambit of the MCU timeline when they introduce their X-Men

Tatum reprised his role alongside Snipes’ Blade, Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, and Dafne Keen’s X-23 as they team up with Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine. The unlikely team comes together to attack the fortress of Cassandra Nova in The Void.

Bryan Singer wanted to include Gambit in the X-Men movies badly and even wrote a short cameo for the character in X2. The scene was ultimately cut from the film. In the third X-Men film, different actors were considered for the role, including Keanu Reeves and Josh Holloway. Tatum was eventually chosen for the role, but the character was written out before he was officially cast (via Uproxx).
Gambit eventually appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but Tatum couldn’t commit to the role due to scheduling conflicts. Taylor Kitsch was cast in the role and was even provided a three-picture deal. In 2014, X-Men producer Lauren Donner shared that she had planned a Gambit film with Tatum (via Empire). Fox even gave the film a release date of October 7, 2016.
However, the film went nowhere despite plans being discussed even in 2022. Fans can now enjoy Tatum’s role as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, now running in theaters.
