Jack Reacher film series was based on the popular book series by author Lee Child. The two movies in the series, Jack Reacher (2012) and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016), were both directed by Christopher McQuarrie and star Tom Cruise in the lead role of Jack Reacher.

The first Jack Reacher movie also featured actress Rosamund Pike as Helen Rodin. During her audition, the actress reportedly asked Tom Cruise to stop talking because he was distracting her. She later thought about it and didn’t expect to land the role. However, she got the role and surprisingly she connected well with Cruise while filming the movie.

Actress Rosamund Pike played the role of Helen Rodin in Jack Reacher (2012) alongside Tom Cruise. Her audition for the role was quite exciting (maybe not for Pike). She once told BlogTalkRadio,

“In my audition, there was a moment where I was doing a scene with a guy who was standing in for Richard Jenkins, who plays my father. I could see Tom Cruise and McQuarrie out of the corner of my eye kind of talking during my scene and it was distracting. So I said, ‘I’m sorry guys, do you think you could not talk during my scene?'”

Initially, she didn’t realize what she did, probably because she was nervous but later she thought she will not get the role.

Later Rosamund Pike thought that her career will end and she won’t get the role in the movie because she asked Cruise, the star of the movie, to shut up. She said,

“I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, what have I done?’ I’m probably the only actress in 30 years who’s ever told Tom Cruise to stop talking.”

Fortunately, Pike got the role in the movie as the studios loved her audition. The actress is best known for her roles in Gone Girl (2014), Hostiles (2017), and the television series State of the Union (2019).

Many people would expect Tom Cruise and Rosamund Pike to have issues while filming because of their small encounter, however, that was not the case. The two actually connected well on the sets of the movie. The actress said,

“We did connect. We found this nice easy humor from the word go.”

Both Jack Reacher movies grossed a combined total of over $400 million worldwide. It performed fairly well but received mixed reviews from the viewers. If compared to Tom Cruise’s filmography, the series weren’t really that successful but it was unique in its own way.
