FRIENDS has been one of the most realistic sitcoms created to date, with all the fan-favorite six friends making choices that weren’t always right or should have been made in the first place. That said, David Schwimmer’s character Ross Geller was no exception to this rule either as he too, just like the others, went on to make some serious mistakes that affected his character.

But while wrong decisions are one thing, closely analyzing Geller’s character and the decisions he made proves that the things he did weren’t merely mistakes. To say the least, while Schwimmer’s character was a truly flawed one just like a normal human being, the decisions he made seem to be pointing out a disturbing fact about him: He’s a serial cheater.

FRIENDS Fan Points Out a Disturbing Fact About Ross Geller

Throughout the time that the series aired, David Schwimmer‘s Ross Geller was inevitably the most intelligent member of the group of six, adored for his goofy but lovable demeanor by fans. And yet, he made some seriously imperfect decisions that more or less prove that he has been depicted as nothing short of a serial killer.

Recently, Redditor r/venom_holic_ took to the platform to point out just how many times Geller has cheated on women. This list included him cheating on Julie, Bonnie, and even Rachel, and the Redditor asked for fans’ opinions on Geller after acknowledging the same.

To this, one fan pointed out a disturbing fact about him after connecting all these dots. As r/26007 perfectly explained it:

Ross is a flawed character. We all know a Ross. Someone that wants to be in a relationship so bad, they’ll surely rush into one as soon as they see an opportunity. Unfortunately, these opportunities sometimes come at the cost of one they’re currently in. But you’re still friends with the Ross, because you’re not going to be the one to kick them out of the group.

Of course, that comes as a harsh reality check, but that’s not all.

As per the Redditor, this only further proved canonically that Geller even cheated on Jennifer Aniston‘s Rachel Green and that they weren’t, in fact, on a break. Because, apparently, Schwimmer’s character’s mindset has seemingly been depicted as him interpreting “being on a break” as “breaking up.”

According to what the Redditor went on to point out and explain:

Also funny that 2/3 times he cheated it was WITH Rachel, and the 3rd time was “cheating” on Rachel (they were on a break, for all he knew that meant broken up; even if you don’t agree, that’s his mindset we’re discussing). Then he says Rachel’s name when he goes to get married. Dude could not get Rachel off his mind.

All of this being said, this only further proves that Geller might as well be deemed a serial cheater, even if sitcom logic basically claims—as another Redditor r/ProbablyASithLord pointed out—“it’s not cheating if it’s with the one you’re supposed to be with.” This, in turn, is receiving fairly mixed reviews from fans.

On the one hand, while some fans are defending the show creators for portraying Schwimmer’s character this way, other fans seem to have further mixed opinions on this. While some of them are justifying why it wasn’t cheating between Ross and Rachel, others are justifying why it was. All in all, here’s a sneak peek at what all these fans have to say on Reddit:

To put it in a nutshell, David Schwimmer’s Ross Geller‘s reexamination by fans has only revealed a disturbing pattern of serial cheating. And while some fans are justifying his actions of infidelity and others condemn them, all of this only further proves that even beloved TV shows can have complex and multifaceted characters and that it’s okay to critique and analyze their actions.

FRIENDS is available to be streamed on Max.
