It appears that Sony may be planning to host another PlayStation showcase in the coming months, at least according to Twitter user DarkClong, courtesy of a user known as bigpann on A9VG. They state that this could come in July or September, though it seems to be up in the air as far as they are concerned for now. Sony held their most recent showcase just over a month ago, the main event of which was a ten-minute gameplay presentation for the Insomniac’s upcoming superhero exclusive, Spider-Man 2.

What PlayStation could have up its sleeve for this second showcase is largely a mystery, although DarkClong suggests there are three unannounced titles from the China Hero Project which could very well make their way into the showcase. He claims that these three games follow a “Mid Dynasty theme… [an] oriental fantasy theme… [and a] western fantasy [theme.]”

The China Hero Project is an initiative originally launched by Sony Interactive Entertainment back in 2016 in order to support struggling Chinese developers by providing them with the resources and funding they need to develop their titles for PlayStation platforms and release them worldwide. It has been responsible for releasing over seventeen games.
PlayStation May Need Another Showcase Soon
Following Sony’s May showcase, many gamers felt disgruntled by the lack of first-party PlayStation exclusives shown. While a notable swath of titles were unveiled and shown during the broadcast, including Alan Wake II and a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, the biggest first-party exclusive with a large presence there was Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which releases in October of this year, leaving some gamers wondering what Sony has in store after that.
Having another showcase soon could do wonders for restoring some lost faith following the most recent outing from PlayStation. If Sony were to give gamers a peak behind the curtain at several new titles, it could serve to undo the recent backlash against them.
As for what could be shown at a new showcase, that remains up in the air for now. It has recently been rumored that we may hear about Resident Evil 9 soon, with it supposedly on track for a late 2024 release. This could line up with a PlayStation showcase, as Capcom often announces new Resident Evil information at PlayStation events, as every title in the series developed in its specially crafted RE Engine has been announced at a PlayStation event of some sort, whether that be E3 or an event later in the year.

This continues a trend of the post-E3 landscape the industry currently finds itself in.
