BBC’s Doctor Who welcomes a new addition to the cast: RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon. The actress, singer, and drag queen will star in a major role alongside new Time Lord, Ncuti Gatwa, and his companion, Millie Gibson. Monsoon’s character in the upcoming Season 14 is still kept a secret.

The famous drag queen bagged the role in the hit British show after she debuted as Matron ‘Mama’ Morton in Chicago. Her sold-out performance on Broadway was a victory for the LGBTQ community, with her becoming the first-ever drag queen to portray the character.

Drag Race Queen Jinkx Monsoon Gets Ready For The Doctor Who Experience

In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jinkx Monsoon expressed her excitement about joining the Doctor Who family. She also praised showrunner Russell T Davies as he finally returns to the franchise after a long break:

I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who. Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer— I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”

Davies will soon replace the show’s current director, Chris Chibnall, and in his welcome statement for Monsoon, he said:

In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!

Exciting Updates About Upcoming Doctor Who Series

Launching in 1963, the Doctor Who series has featured 13 different actors as the Time Lord. This character uses the idea of regeneration to transform oneself into a new persona. Out of the thirteen doctors, Jodie Whittaker is the first woman to portray the role on the small screen.

The TARDIS is a time-traveling device that allows the Doctor to traverse dimensions. Each actor provides a unique personality to the character that is exclusively significant in portraying the various stages in the Doctor’s life. All of it works in unison, forming a single story that keeps fans entertained.

The franchise will see a lot of changes as it introduces several newcomers to the show. Alongside Monsoon, Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa and Coronation Street‘s Millie Gibson will grace the television. Last year, fans were teased with an exciting official poster with the characters sporting their costumes.

The official trailer for the special episodes was released last year, and although it gave fans a hint on what to expect this November, it pretty much kept the plot under wraps, only providing a glimpse of the new characters, villains, and the show’s brand-new logo.

Russell T Davies will helm the project, while Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter will serve as executive producers.

Doctor Who is available to watch via BBC and will soon arrive in Disney+, while old episodes are available to stream via HBO Max.
