Ryan Gosling’s The Fall Guy promised extreme action and even intense drama, and more than the fight sequences, the soundtracks of the movie were also carefully curated. A lot of discussion and deliberation went on inside the room to pick the most appropriate songs for every scene.

There’s a variety of soundtracks used in The Fall Guy. From the heart-wrenching Taylor Swift break-up song ‘All Too Well’ to a karaoke version of Christina Aguilera’s ‘Genie in a Bottle’, fans would not be able to guess what track comes next.

Ryan Gosling Did Not Like One Of The Fall Guy’s Main Soundtracks

The Fall Guy also featured some classic hits like the 1979 Kiss song ‘I Was Made For Lovin’ You’, but it almost did not make the cut as everyone seemed to hate it. Director David Leitch was the one who proposed the idea. He thought about it during a car drive even before drafting the script. He shared via Variety:

What I liked about Kiss was it was crystallizing the tone of the movie for me, which was equal parts camp and cool.”

Producer Kelly McCormick did not like the song. Even when they started filming, they were still discussing about it. During post-production, the director shockingly found out that even Ryan Gosling and Universal Pictures president Peter Cramer turned down his idea. McCormick explained:

I was like, ‘I think you should cut that Kiss out.’ Peter Cramer was like, ‘I think you should cut Kiss out,’ and Ryan Gosling was like, ‘I don’t see Kiss in this thing.’ By the end, it was the only thing that tied the whole room together.”

They tried to listen to many other songs but could not find a single one that fit the narrative. “Everyone is saying, ‘Of course it’s Kiss. Of course, it’s that song,’” added McCormick.

I Was Made For Lovin’ You’ gave the team a difficult time getting clearance but all the effort was worth it. Finally, composer Dominic Lewis was able to deconstruct the song and incorporate it into his own composition. Singer Yungblud also has a cover version.

Ultimately, the song that everyone did not agree on became one of the main soundtracks of The Fall Guy.

Ryan Gosling Did Not Perform The Fall Guy’s Theme Song

As there are many songs included in The Fall Guy, it also has its original theme. ‘Unknown Stuntman’ was originally sung by Lee Majors. Unfortunately for fans, Gosling did not sing it in the film. Blake Shelton did the honor.

The Blade Runner 2049 star responded via People when asked if he will perform it: “I’m not, but it’s in the film, and a pretty great artist sings it. I’m excited for people to hear it.”

It might be a disappointment for the fans as they expected Gosling to take on the microphone once again and show his vocal prowess. After starring in the musical film La La Land, he also sang the hit Barbie song ‘I’m Just Ken.’

The Fall Guy is now showing in theaters worldwide.
