While he was taking the stage to receive the award and give his acceptance speech, he got a standing ovation as everyone believed he was the most deserving one. And, having won the award, he thanked his childhood and the Academy. He beamed, “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and the Academy — in that order.

Thanking his wife, Susan Downey, err “veterinarian,” the actor heralded: “She found me as a snarling rescue pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here, thank you.”

Here’s my little secret, I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris (Nolan) knew it, Emma (Thomas) made sure she surrounded me with one of the great casts and crews of all time — Emily, Cillian, Matt Damon, Blunt — it was fantastic and I stand here a before you a better man because of it,” said Downey, Jr.

“What we do is meaningful, and the stuff we decide to make is important,” the actor continued.

Ryan Gosling who played Ken, Barbie’s superfluous paramour was up against Robert Downey Jr in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category but lost it to him. His tour de force performance as Lewis Straus in Oppenheimer has blown everyone away and won every major acting award held in the past months.

He has overshadowed all his fellow nominees including Ryan Gosling. Though Gosling’s job as Ken in Barbie stole the show completely, RDj was ahead of him. No surprise took place in the category and as expected Downey Jr took home the award.
