Ryan Reynolds’ MCU entry, Deadpool & Wolverine, is more than just a movie. At its very essence, it has been an emotional experience for fans of the Marvel universe. After waiting for years to have the X-Men in the MCU, Reynolds’ flick does not disappoint, instead, it provides the best possible gateway for the mutants to make it to the MCU.
But apart from the X-Men, the film also brings several memorable characters and actors into the fold of the MCU. Aside from bringing back Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine, the film’s best cameo was made possible with a simple text, and if hadn’t been for Reynolds, it would have never happened.
Ryan Reynolds’ One Text Made Deadpool & Wolverine’s Best Cameo Possible
Deadpool & Wolverine is anticipated to be one of the biggest MCU movies of all time and part of its appeal has been the epic team-up of the two favorite Marvel characters portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Apart from being an exhilarating ride with an enticing storyline and entertaining dialogues, the film is also a gold mine in terms of cameos.
After bringing back some of the most fan-favorite characters and bringing in several new characters and actors, the film also brings back Chris Evans to the MCU! Evans, instead of his more famous and acclaimed role of Captain America, reprised his first Marvel role, Johnny Storm/Human Torch from Fox’s Fantastic Four movies.
As shocking as his appearance was, Evans, in his latest interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealed that the cameo was made possible by a simple text message from Reynolds.
I was so excited. Ryan’s a buddy. He just shot me a text saying, ‘Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?’ I said, ‘Oh my God! Of course.’
Evans later went on to state that the cameo became a possibility only because of his fellow Marvel star, Reynolds. If it hadn’t been for him, Deadpool & Wolverine would never had its greatest cameo.
Chris Evans Agreed to Come Back Only Because of Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds not only starred in Deadpool & Wolverine as the foul-mouthed mutant but also worked extensively behind the camera as a writer and producer. The actor not only helped bring back Wolverine but was also the sole reason why Chris Evans agreed to return as the Human Torch after all these years.
Known for unbeatable genius and matchless wit, Reynolds’ unique ability to break the fourth wall, whether on-screen or off-screen, became the very reason for Evans’ return. While talking to EW, Evans stated,
Honestly, Ryan might be the only guy that I would’ve done it for because he’s just got the Midas touch. His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you’re going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan’s humor makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.
So while it was good to have Chris Evans back in the Marvel-verse, it is Reynolds’ passion and dedication to the project that made it all possible. His influence and creativity have undeniably contributed to making the flick an unforgettable and momentous entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
