When it was first announced that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman would be pairing up for an MCU film, many knew that such a film was going to be a potential blockbuster. Not only this, but domestically this is the biggest opening for any film since Spider-Man: No Way Home and the second largest opening for any third installment of a movie, behind Avengers: Endgame (via The Walt Disney Company). It thus leaves behind the initial two Avengers films and several other MCU entries.

Now the eighth-best debut of all time and having the sixth biggest opening weekends for a superhero flick worldwide (a chart that is dominated by MCU entries), Deadpool & Wolverine’s record-smashing success looks more shocking when one realizes only 9 Hollywood movies have managed to gross $200 million+ during their opening weekends (via Variety).
Already the sixth-highest-grossing movie of 2024, the film’s surprising success thus proves, that even with barely any X-Men, the mutants have the power to surpass Earth’s Mightiest Heroes when it comes to making money within the MCU.
