After years of waiting, K-pop fans, or rather fans of the massively popular K-pop group Stray Kids, have finally gotten what they have been dreaming of: a Marvel collab. Ever since Ryan Reynolds and Bang Chan, aka the leader of SKZ, struck up a friendship back in 2021 after their iconic God’s Menu performance in Kingdom: Legendary War, Stays (the SKZ fandom) has been dreaming of this event.

Now apart from having another single. Slash, as part of the official soundtrack of the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, Stray Kids have managed to do the unthinkable: getting Deadpool and Wolverine star in their recently released Chk Chk Boom music video. And surprisingly, the MV has more views than the Deadpool 3 official trailer.

A possible collaboration between Stray Kids and Ryan Reynolds has been anticipated for a long long time by fans of the award-winning K-pop group. And now, after manifesting it for years, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are featured in Stray Kids’s music video for their title track, Chk Chk Boom, from their recently released album, Ate.

Reynolds has been friends with Bang Chan, leader of Stray Kids, for a long time and often promotes the group through his production company, Maximum Effort Production. While the collaboration is going viral across the internet, it has already surpassed the promotion activities for Deadpool & Wolverine

Chk Chk Boom released on 19 July, has already surpassed 17 million plus views on YouTube, while the final trailer for the upcoming flick has only managed to garner 2.7 million views since its release yesterday on Marvel Entertainment’s official YouTube channel.

Although the trailer has over 5.4 million views on Reynolds’ YouTube channel, its combined views are still less than Stray Kids’ Chk Chk Boom MV. Earlier, the official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine had broken records by becoming the most-watched movie trailer of all time having 365 million views in 24 hours (via The Walt Disney Company). However, since then no other promotional video or stint has managed to replicate its success, and Reynolds and Jackman’s 20-second cameo in the Stray Kids’ music video remains the movie’s best promotional stint, as per YouTube views.

The world of K-pop is known for fierce fan battles, and the power of Stays might just prove to be exceptionally vital for the upcoming Marvel flick, Deadpool & Wolverine. With Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman making their ‘K-pop debut’ with Stray Kids’ recently released music video, the views already prove that this epic collaboration might be the Marvel flick’s most successful promotional stint.

Composed of eight members— Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N.— Stray Kids is one of the world’s most popular music acts of all time (see Vogue). Known for their energetic and electrifying music, the group has been dominating music charts for a long time, and their Marvel collaboration (via The Hollywood Reporter) is one of the many significant feats they have accomplished since their debut in 2018.

And now, Reynolds’ collaboration with his ‘favorite Australians’ might just prove to be crucial for the success of Deadpool & Wolverine. Apparently done without Marvel Studios’ knowledge (see Marvel Korea), the movie has received a significant boost given the involvement of the K-pop group. Even on Maximum Efforts’s official Instagram account, the Chk Chk Boom’s promotional video has more likes than any of Wolverine & Deadpool’s promotional stuff, and so is the case (more or less) on the company’s other social media accounts.

Having collaborated with a total of 6 brands till now, from Aviation Gin to DiGirono, the movie has been enjoying one of the best promotional stints of all time (see PR Week). Leveraging their combined star power and ‘bromance’, their collaboration with Stray Kids only adds to the film’s marketing campaign, which is undeniably receiving more attention than any of their other collaborations.

Well, Ryan Reynolds was right after all, in his interview with Marvel Korea, that the benefit of this collaboration is more significant for the Marvel flick than it is for the K-pop group.

Deadpool & Wolverine will be in theatres on July 26, while Ate can be streamed on Spotify.
