The multiversal saga so far has been a bumpy ride for the MCU, as their plans of making Jonathan Majors’ Kang the next big thing after Thanos have come crumbling down. With Majors being let go of the MCU following his conviction of assault and harassment, the future of the epic multiversal war between the council of Kangs and the Avengers remains in jeopardy.

While the two possible options appear to be either going the recast route or scrapping the storyline entirely, Ryan Reynolds’ forthcoming Deadpool 3 might help Marvel solve this issue.

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 Could Conclude Kang’s Chapter in the MCU

After a tumultuous year, which witnessed most MCU releases underperforming, 2024 will only witness one major release from the MCU, which could put an end to the Kang storyline for good. Following the set photos of the Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool 3, it is seemingly clear that TVA will be involved in some capacity in the story,  which also adds the possibility of them tackling the Council of Kangs.

Considering the stories of Victor Timely, He Who Remains, and Kang the Conqueror were given a completion, the Council of Kangs, which was introduced in Ant-Man 3, remains the only loose thread. And with going the obvious route of setting up an eventual face-off between them and the Avengers no longer seeming a viable option, Deadpool 3 might do the heavy lifting of scrapping this story thread. Following TVA’s inclusion in the movie, it could be explained that post Loki 2, they’re hunting down the various variants of Kangs, thus putting an end to the Council of Kangs in the MCU.

Major Wolverine Villain Set to Return in the Threequel

Potential Spoilers for Deadpool 3 Ahead.

But this wasn’t the lone set photo released from the sets of Deadpool 3, as another major one confirmed the return of Sabretooth in the upcoming threequel. One of Wolverine’s most iconic foes from the comics, the set photo also seemingly confirmed that the character might die by getting beheaded, which interestingly pays off his threat to Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Whether Deadpool 3 will put an end to Kang’s chapter in the MCU or not remains to be seen, as of now, fans can only hope the threequel matches the bar set by the previous two entries.

Deadpool 3 is slated for a theatre release on 26 July 2024.
