Although there has not been any official confirmation of other characters in FOX’s MCU film, fans expect the sparkling rumors to be true. The most recent update of the film suggests that a major X-Men reunion is set to happen in Deadpool 3.

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen May Return in Deadpool 3

Hugh Jackman’s return as Logan aka Wolverine has established the footprint of an exciting X-Men reunion in Deadpool 3, but Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen’s return would be a grand addition to Marvel and FOX’s shared universe movie.

Stewart and  McKellen first appeared as Professor X and Magneto in 2000’s X-Men, and ever since they have appeared in a few other movies in the X-Men franchise.

“I can’t say about what Charles’ future might possibly hold,” Stewart told Entertainment Tonight during the interview for Star Trek: Picard season 3. It seems the veteran actors are yet to retire from the studio. Stewart has already appeared in MCU’s multiversal blockbuster Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. In the interview, Stewart also revealed that they are far from retirement, in fact, he went on to describe McKellen’s reaction to Xavier’s reprising role in the Benedict Cumberbatch starrer multiverse movie.

“Actually, it went very well. He did say something like ‘Hey, I would’ve done this!’, yes, that’s true,” Stewart said. “But we’re not done, Sir Ian and myself. We’re… we got plans.”

Most recently, when ComicBook asked the Professor X actor about Deadpool 3, he said that he has “been told to standby” for a potential appearance in the film. “I know nothing more than that, honest,” he added.

It is possible for the iconic duo to come out of retirement if the storyline demands and with Jackman’s Logan in the picture, it is fair to assume the grand X-Men reunion in the movie.

Hugh Jackman’s Logan is Back

Jackman made his superhero debut in 2000 with the movie X-Men. Later, the actor appeared in several movies in the franchise up until the 2017 movie, Logan, where his character met with a tragic death. However, the dead man is coming back alive for Deadpool 3. “It’s amazing. And we’ve got Hugh Jackman coming back for our first Deadpool film within the MCU,” Marvel president Kevin Feige told EW.

“To have Hugh come back is incredible. For me, personally, that is where I started. I remember sitting behind the camera – well behind the camera – at his audition for the film. It was his first on-set audition, and he flew up to Toronto to do a read with Anna Paquin. For him, and for me, and I think for all of the fans of Marvel, it’s unbelievable what has happened in those 23 years. It’s very full-circle having him come back in this new Deadpool film.”

Explaining his return, Jackman told CNN that “the story is pre-Logan,” adding that Deadpool 3 will follow the story before “Logan died. So, we pre that in the storyline.” However, Jackman did not want to return to play Logan again, “I really thought I was done. Like, I was at peace with it.” The actor even said straight no to Ryan Reynolds when he called Jackman, “‘Can we do it again?’ I’m like, ‘No, I’m done,’” Jackman said.

“And it came to me like that, because when I keep thinking of me and Ryan and Deadpool and Wolverine, which are classic comic book rivals, there’s also a dynamic that I’ve never really got to do before as Wolverine.”

Later, the actor revealed that he would spend six months in training to reprise the role of Logan.

Further, the confirmed rated-R movie brings the classic comic book yellow suit Wolverine to wear which was not previously used.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled for theatrical release on 3 May 2024.
