Ryan Reynolds and director Sawn Levy created an iconic film in 2021 titled Free Guy. With the genre of the movie being action/adventure, Free Guy follows the story of a guy who becomes…free. Realizing that he is a non-playable character in a massive online video game, chaos ensues as he tries to free himself.
In the movie, Chris Evans was gracious enough to give a cameo when Reynolds’ on-screen character picks up Captain America’s shield. Well, Ryan Reynolds personally oversaw the cameo of Evans and even fulfilled his condition of a severe time constraint.
Ryan Reynolds Really Wanted Chris Evans’ Cameo in Free Guy
Fighting against Dude in the 2021 movie, Ryan Reynold’s Guy gets the powers of various characters from the MCU. With his right hand becoming Hulk’s right hand, Dude tries to punch him when Reynolds blocks the punch with the shield of Captain America.

The scene then cuts to Chris Evans playing the game on his mobile phone and he incredulously asks “What the sh*t!”. Reynolds had quite a tough time making this cameo happen. Realizing that Evans was in Boston filming Defending Jacob, the Deadpool actor texted him to ask whether a cameo would be possible or not.
With a busy schedule, Evans said yes but only if he could “be in and out in ten minutes”. Ryan Reynolds agreed to the condition and as per the trivia on IMDB, Reynolds stated that the scene was over in seven minutes!
“He was incredibly kind and gracious. I told him exactly what was happening and we were 100% ready for him before he ever even got close to set. He was in and out in about seven minutes.”
Fans loved the cameo of Captain America himself in the 2021 movie as this was something completely unexpected and so was the movie.
Ryan Reynolds Doesn’t Want A Sequel To Free Guy
With the first film earning millions at the global box office, an idea for a sequel was naturally made and it was indeed good. Although Reynolds stated that he would love a sequel to the 2021 film, he said that there doesn’t have to be a sequel for everything (via Variety).
“There is the potential to do a sequel to ‘Free Guy,’ which would be fun. I would love it. But also like, does everything fu*king have to be a sequel? I don’t know. Sometimes it’s OK to just do a movie and have it kick ass and then everyone go home.”
Free Guy received a rating of 7.1/10 on IMDB and a whopping 80% on Rotten Tomatoes while earning $331.5 million worldwide. The 2021 film is available to stream on Disney+ in the U.S.
