Scheduled talks between SAG-AFTRA, the influential union representing actors and voice actors, and ten leading video game companies have failed to yield a comprehensive agreement concerning the rights and welfare of voice actors and performers in the dynamic video game industry.
The union has been actively engaged in discussions with major publishers and developers, including prominent names like Activision, Electronic Arts, Epic Games, Take-Two, Insomniac, and Warner Bros, exploring the possibility of establishing a successor to the Interactive Media Agreement.
This contract, which was supposed to this end year had its expiry date temporarily extended while negotiations were ongoing. Unfortunately the recent series of talks has reached a point where agreement cannot be reached.
SAG-AFTRA has confirmed that the scheduled negotiations, for the Interactive Media Agreement have concluded. They have announced that a comprehensive deal has not been reached. As a result both parties will continue their efforts to bridge the existing gaps while the current agreement remains in effect.
SAG-AFTRA Members Authorize Strike in Video Game Contract Negotiations
This recent development follows a strike authorization vote among SAG-AFTRA’s extensive membership, which comprises approximately 160,000 members. An astounding 98% of members voted in favor of potentially commencing a strike if a satisfactory agreement is not reached. However, it is essential to emphasize that authorizing a strike does not guarantee its eventual occurrence. The union has maintained a strong stance throughout negotiations, underscoring the significance of addressing critical issues affecting its members.
