Dark Souls introduced the battle system that many contemporary titles use, establishing a new norm. This could mean that the era of Soulslike is coming to an end. Miyazaki even talked about this in different interviews, mentioning that he doesn’t want to make the same games over and over again.

FromSoftware has changed the way that games are made in the last decade. After the incredible success of Dark Souls, sales of games like Elden Ring are proof that it is very respected as a studio. This kind of title redefined the core mechanics of many other current games that use this kind of system to give the most impressive gameplay experience, like Sifu, Lies of P, and more.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is one of the main people responsible for this, and he may be thinking of making a whole new kind of game, which is very far from Soulslike.

In previous interviews, Miyazaki talked about the future of FromSoftware and all the success of this sub-genre, but he also made it very clear that he wanted to make original titles that were not always the same. He said, “That’s very attractive to me as a developer – I don’t want to keep on putting out the same kind of games all the time.”

He also remembers how FromSoftware makes unique games that are not always similar; one of these titles is Déraciné, a PSVR experience that has nothing to do with Dark Souls or even action games in general.

FromSoftware Could Really Surprise Players With Its Next Project

This Japanese company has great IPs that have nothing to do with Dark Souls, like Tenchu, Ninja Blade, or Armored Core. This last one has a recently launched game, so you can maybe expect to see a new Tenchu game in the near future. But Miyazaki or the studio had not made any confirmation about what game would be coming next after the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

On June 21, Elden Ring DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. The expansion will cost $39.99 and will require significant parts of the Elden Ring core game to be completed for the main story to be played. Players are waiting very eagerly for its launch.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
