Tom Felton has never once disappointed his fans with how wonderful of an actor he is. From the Harry Potter franchise to CW’s The Flash, there is an exquisite range of characters that he has played. Regardless of how they may be perceived, the fact that he played them was enough for a great number of fans to make them their favorites.
Throughout his journey as an actor, he has achieved a great number of things including fame that various actors can only imagine. As such, it was not as if his entire career had been a flawless paradise. In fact, he found himself facing a problem similar to Johnny Depp, an alcohol addiction. However, what was interesting was that his entire team stood up for him and by his side.
Tom Felton Developed an Alcohol Addiction
In his memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, Tom Felton revealed what his life had been becoming an overnight star following the success of the Harry Potter franchise. However, it was not all rainbows and unicorns for him. He came to develop an addiction to alcohol, one that almost destroyed him.
“I went from being not particularly interested [in drinking] to regularly having a few pints a day before the sun had even gone down, and a shot of whiskey to go with each of them.”
He admitted that initially, the thought of consuming alcohol had been a nudge of nonchalance, something he could easily overlook. However, the way it developed was not something he was proud of. Felton talked about how things became very rough for him after he found himself consuming a few pints in a single day, followed by a shot of whiskey just to give his other drinks company. It was a dark time in his life, one that he deeply regretted. Luckily, his team had his side.
Tom Felton’s Team Stood By Him
With the gruesome struggle Tom Felton was going through, it was a hand he needed to get himself out of the pit. Lucky for him, he was not alone. His lawyer, his then-girlfriend, managers, and agents all united in order to make sure Felton did not go down a path that would chronically harm him.
They all set up an intervention for him, making him realize just how harmful alcohol is. This forced him to go to a rehab in Malibu, getting the help he very much needed. It was thanks to those around him that he got help and treatment for his addiction.
