The 74-year-old actor also shared about his family history of Alzheimer’s disease. His late aunt, mother, uncle, and grandfather all battled the ailment. He related this to his character in the movie-adaption, based on Walter Mosely’s novel of the same name, and said:
“It’s not just a dirge about Alzheimer’s dementia. It’s about a lot of other different things. As they passed on, I just became more determined to tell this story and get it out there.
And make sure people understand that the people they loved are still there, inside that person, so you can’t throw them away. You have to care for them and love them as if they’re still contributing to your life.”
The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey is produced by Jackson’s wife, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and is available for streaming on Apple TV+.
