The Saw franchise is one of the most classic ones when it comes to the horror genre. With the first film coming out in 2004, audiences were very quickly captivated by the games played by Jigsaw, the villain of the franchise, becoming one of the biggest influences on the genre in a very long time. With the most recent film in the franchise, Saw X premiering soon, and featuring many comebacks for some of the most iconic people to have a hand in the franchise, fans are more than excited to see what this film has in store for them.

The Director Of Saw X Speaks On The Franchise’s Future

With this being the tenth part of the Saw franchise, many expected this to be the end, with the creators of the film throwing together an epic conclusion with new and old characters showing up, considering the fact that a lot of behind-the-scenes people have returned for this project. This could perhaps be the case as director, Kevin Greutert’s cryptic reply to a question during an interview with SFX Magazine leaves much to the imaginations of their audiences.

“There’s no obvious new direction to go after this film.” said Greutert when asked about the future of the film series.

During this interview, Greutert was asked about the future of this franchise, if there was one and if so, what could the audiences expect when it comes to future projects. The director replied, stating that after this film, there isn’t any story left to be continued. This means that this film will, perhaps, tie all of the loose ends of the past films and give a concussion that will leave no room for the same story to continue.

Does This Mean The End Of The Saw Franchise?

While this may concern many fans of the franchise, considering the fact that Kevin Greutert basically stated that Saw X may be the final film to come out of this beloved franchise, this might not be the end. The director went on to add that even though the initial story may have been concluded, this may not be the end for the franchise as he can see more films coming in the future if only one fact is met.

Saw X

“But I think there probably will be more Saw movies, particularly if this one is successful.” He went on to say

Greutert revealed that the chance of more Saw films coming heavily depends on whether or not Saw X performs well at the box office. If this were to be the case, it would mean that future films would start fresh with an all-new storyline that may not be connected to the first ten films in any way whatsoever.
