Steven Spielberg’s visionary approach to bringing the prehistoric era of roaring allosaurus and menacing tyrannosaurus alive met a disappointing end with Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World Dominion. The film’s billion-dollar potential led Colin Trevorrow to follow through with the threequel and almost tanked the entire franchise if not for Spielberg’s reputation that still remains attached to the IP.

As such, the fourth and definitive film of the Jurassic World franchise is intent on setting itself apart from its predecessor by reigning in the 2-time Academy Award-nominated powerhouse actor, Scarlett Johansson. But the film still needs a catalyst to its plot alongside the Marvel star who can confirm the franchise’s success.

Jurassic World 4 Needs Some Timely Third-Party Intervention

Despite Gareth Edwards leading his powerfully stacked cast toward a natural glory, Jurassic World 4 still strikes terror in the hearts of fans who were led to believe in the potential of Jurassic World Dominion only to be let down belatedly. The fourth film’s disassociation from the rest of the franchise then serves as welcome news and a surprisingly smart call on the part of the studio instead of cashing in on the big checks from Chris Pratt’s established IP.

However, Scarlett Johansson’s presence might not be enough to secure the box office success of the film. This is where the intervention comes in, in the form of a red herring or the film’s saving grace, depending on the situation. And no one could serve such a role better than someone who almost came close to bagging the role of Dr. Ian Malcolm in the original trilogy that eventually went to Jeff Goldblum.

Michael Keaton’s star power in the late 80s and early 90s which skyrocketed with Beetlejuice and Batman made him the perfect candidate for the role of a snarky realist with a sense of ethics. The fourth film could bring in Keaton in a mysterious new role that can serve as a bridge between the new world and the old, i.e. the one with Scarlett Johansson and the one left behind by Chris Pratt.

With his connections to Isla Nublar, Keaton’s character could help draw the de-extinct creatures away from the mainland and establish peace once more by advocating against the mistakes of the past to prevent a calamity of this scale again.

Jurassic World 4 Gets a Makeover With Scarlett Johansson

After the colossal critical blunder of Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World Dominion, the Steven Spielberg franchise seeks to set itself straight once more despite a promising start to the sequel trilogy. Colin Trevorrow’s sequel to Fallen Kingdom managed to scrape in a billion dollars at the box office irrespective of the rotten critic reviews.

The original cast’s star power pulled the film to the finish line by drawing in fans and audiences from a bygone generation and helping the Jurassic saga that began 30 years ago come full circle with Dominion.

Set four years after the destruction of Isla Nublar, Jurassic World Dominion takes the narrative back to the Jurassic Age where co-existence is the only means of survival. Dinosaurs — now de-extinct — live (and hunt) alongside humans and although it makes for a fascinating plotline that could’ve done better under Spielberg’s vision, the film falls prey to the threequel curse as the franchise’s reputation and pedigree cast too big a shadow over its sixth film.

Now, with Scarlett Johansson at the helm, the extension of the Jurassic World saga gets a new makeover that is entirely disconnected from the Chris Pratt storyline. Steven Spielberg is set to serve as executive producer with his company, Amblin Entertainment taking the lead on the movie’s production alongside Universal Studios. The Lincoln Lawyer star Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is in talks to join as the male lead.

Jurassic World 4, directed by Gareth Edwards, is slated to premiere on July 2, 2025.
