Following the story of three childhood friends whose lives are shattered when one of them faces a family tragedy, the 2003 movie was one-of-a-kind with some iconic performances.
Amidst such iconic actors, there was a scene when Sean Penn’s character goes into a morgue to see the dead body of his daughter Katie. As per IMDB trivia, when Penn was giving his iconic dialogue of swearing revenge against injustice, actress Emmy Rossum (who portrayed the role of his daughter) revealed that she was moved to tears.
Rossum stated that the entire scene was so emotionally vulnerable for her that she admired Penn for his acting skills. Sean Penn Requested That An Oxygen Tank Be Kept Nearby
Penn surely deserved that Oscar since he was willing to be out of breath just to get that perfect take in the 2003 movie. In one of the scenes when Penn’s character violently thrashes around when he discovers Katie’s body, the actor has a special request for the crew.
While shooting the scene, Sean Penn requested that a tank of Oxygen be kept nearby after he was done with his take since he was so short of breath that he needed it desperately. Wanting to depict realism in the movie, the actor chose to deprive himself of breath to get that perfect take which led him to win the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role. The 2003 film received a rating of 7.9/10 on IMDB and a whopping 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.
