Rhodey Revealed To Be A Skull In Episode Four Of Secret Invasion

Don Cheadle‘s Rhodey has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe from the very start, with his character being in the first Iron Man movie. Also known as War Machine, his character also played as a self-aware personality character, with his witty comebacks and additions to plans. He has been part of all of the major battles and scenes, being an integral part of not only Tony Stark’s storyline but also the Avengers.

Being such an important part of the MCU from the start, fans were extremely shocked when it was revealed in the latest episode of Secret Invasion that Rhodey had, in fact, been replaced by a shapeshifting alien, better known as Skrulls. While this was one of the theories that fans had come up with for Rhodey’s weird behavior, the show managed to pull this off in the most dramatic of ways.

While Nick Fury had his suspicions about Rhodey’s integrity and alliance, this was only fully confirmed when he eavesdropped on a conversation between Rhodes and Fury’s wife, Priscilla, who was also revealed to be a Skrull. Here, Fury overheard Don Cheadle’s character call a hit for him, after which it was revealed to the audience that Rhodey had been replaced by a Skrull and had been for the entirety of the show.

Kevin Feige Talks About Rhodes Being Revealed As a Skrull

Kevin Feige revealed what exactly went into the decision of creating the plot line. He revealed that He wanted to pick someone that no one will be able to guess, nor expect and reveal them as a Skrull. The decision to pick Rhodey was quite interesting as something like this never took place in the comics, making it even more surprising.

“We needed to have a character that one would not expect to be a Skrull. Don was on board for this reveal of playing and revealing another side of Rhodey and revealing that, yeah, Rhodey has been a Skrull.” He went on to add, “It was very early days when we pitched this concept to Don, and he very much was into it and into being able to play with different sides of Rhodey that we haven’t seen before.”

Feige added that a reason why he picked Rhodey to be a Skrull and he wanted to show the audience a side of him that they had never seen before. He added that Don Cheadle had been on-board with this plan since the very beginning and loved the concept of this different take on a character he has played for so many years and for fans to see a side of him that no one has seen before.
