Matt Reeves’ The Batman is making waves in recent weeks with new rumors stating that High School Musical alumna Vanessa Hudgens is reportedly in the running to portray Selina Kyle aka Catwoman.

These rumors come days after reports that The Twilight Saga star Robert Pattinson is one of two frontrunners to portray the titular Dark Knight. While neither role has been officially confirmed yet, although Robert Pattinson is reportedly bulking-up for the role, Vanessa Hudgens is one name on a table in the running to portray the billionaire and vigilante’s lover and foe Selina Kyle.

Catwoman’s inclusion in the 2021 Matt Reeves movie may also tie-in with past rumors that The Batman will see the Dark Knight face-off against six foes from his infamous rogues gallery. Catwoman, The Penguin, The Riddler, Scarecrow and Bane have all been recently rumored to appear. Deathstroke, whose only appearance was in an end-credits scene for 2017’s Justice League portrayed by Joe Manganiello, and Killer Croc from 2016’s Suicide Squad portrayed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, have also been rumored since the movie’s announcement.

Much like Pattinson, Vanessa Hudgens is best known for appearing in a cult movie franchise which has garnered mixed responses from critics and fans alike. In Hudgens case, she is best known for portraying Gabriella Montez opposite Zac Efron’s Troy Bolton in the Kevin Ortega Disney Channel Original Movie trilogy High School Musical beginning in 2006 and ending with the cinematic release of High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008. Since appearing in the Disney Channel franchise, Hudgens has gone on to appear in movies and television series including 2011’s Sucker Punch, directed by Zack Snyder, and the 2017 DC sitcom series Powerless.

Catwoman has had a notable live-action history appearing in every live-action interpretation of the Batman story. Her most iconic interpretation to date was the 1992 Tim Burton directed Batman Returns where The Cat was portrayed by Michelle Pfeiffer.

Her most recent portrayal was in the Fox TV series Gotham, which told the origins of Batman, Commissioner Gordon and the villains of Gotham City. She was portrayed by Camren Bicondova in every episode except the series finale where the character was aged up and recast with Lili Simmons.
