As per a user-submitted review on IMDb:

“Cobweb’s camera work is sleek, the house is horrifying, the performances are good enough, and being honest: in a theater, this was actually quite spooky with some well-crafted scares.”

But more than that, there’s a scene from the movie that went viral for its hair-raising display. As already told, the movie is about Peter. So, it can be said that the eight-year-old is the story’s main hero. We won’t go into the depth of the story, but the scene was about his encounter with his bad parents.

In this scene, when Peter sleeps, he sees his father (Antony Starr), who’s blinking his eyes very fast, and then says: “Look, Peter, what you have done to your mother, Peter.” Then suddenly, the young boy sees his mother (Lizzy Caplan) in a pink nightgown rushing toward him with two shiny, animal-like eyes gleaming in the dark.

A scene from Cobweb (starring Antony Starr and Lizzy Caplan)

The scene where Peter encounters his sinister parents (turned into ghosts) absolutely broke out everyone in a cold sweat online. One Instagram user (@samueljared.life) said, “Looks terrible. Can’t take movies like that seriously.”

Another said (aghaabdullah): “If homelander actually had a scary movie.”

This is just one of the scenes from Cobweb, which went viral for its terrifying visuals. There are many other scenes that can make people afraid of their own shadow. But the catch here is even though the movie had a Halloween atmosphere, it faced the challenge of opening in July due to the heavy competition with Barbie and Oppenheimer.

In addition to that, despite being produced by industry giants like Seth Rogen and receiving positive reviews, the movie was under-marketed with minimal advertising from the studio. No doubt it is an “itsy bitsy horror film creeps and crawls,” but it still didn’t hit the mark as expected.
