Along with a new story and new enemies, players will get a bunch of new weapons. Now, some of them may require you to visit Rennala and get your stats distributed differently, but there is one new aspect to some of these new weapons that will turn even melee-focused builds into ranged threats.

Elden Ring has always allowed the player to engage in combat on their terms. This doesn’t mean they have the advantage, merely the freedom to go for a build that suits their playstyle. While spellswords have the best ranged attacks and melee capabilities, those focused on strength and dexterity often have to get in close to deal significant damage. The expansion seeks to fix that.

SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE CAVE EXPLORING | Red Bull Levels ELDEN RING Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

The recent Red Bull Levels event showcased exclusive gameplay from the DLC. One video focused on exploring the initial sections of the Land of Shadow, the new realm we have come to explore, in an attempt to find Miquella with his other followers. A second video focused on a boss fight, while a third showed content creators working their way through one of the many dungeons in the DLC.

However, before venturing into the dungeon, many of the creators were busy playing around with different weapons! With eight new categories coming to the game, it seems Miyazaki wants to ensure every build can have some flexibility. Several weapons in the showcase could be thrown as projectiles by charging the strong attack, giving even hammers some degree of range!

This is in line with the inclusion of the Hefty Cracked Pots, which will allow players to benefit from magic and arcane damage without investing Runes into their respective skills. The throwable weapons will allow strength- and dexterity-focused builds to attack from a distance. Since the weapon reappears in the player’s hand and the move doesn’t even consume FP, they can chuck their armament without worry!

New Mechanics to Change Combat Drastically in the DLC

PvP is going to be very interesting with the new weapons.

Along with a bunch of new weapons, FromSoftware has also introduced a new power-up mechanic. In Elden Ring, players would need to invest their earned Runes into particular attributes to increase their damage and vitality. The Scadutree Blessing will change how this functions and also require the player to really explore the Land of Shadow.

The Scadutree Blessings can be involved by resting at a Site of Grace and using the Scadutree Fragment. These Fragments are scattered around the world, with some of them being found under the crosses bearing the likeness of Miquella’s Great Rune.

Receiving this blessing will increase the Tarnished’s damage output and defensive stats. However, the catch is these buffs are applicable only within the DLC areas. This would mean the same attack and damage bonus would not be present when traveling back to base game areas.

From understanding the complexities of a multilayer narrative to the simply joy of "big gun go boom", my goal is to capture all the emotions in between and put them down in an engaging manner.
