Speculations, leaks, and rumors regarding the expansion began long before its release date confirmation. But now, when the expansion is only a couple of days from release at the time of writing, the game’s director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has shared insights into the expansion in an interview.

The prosperous world of Elden Ring has plenty of nuanced characters, hideous enemies, and a gripping, layered lore thanks to Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin, the game’s writers. In a recent interview, Miyazaki talked to CNET about the upcoming expansion, its offering, and how it will appeal to fans. For example, talking about how the downloadable content will weave in perpendicularly with the existing lore, this is what the Game Director said:
I think it [the DLC] provides a lot more context and a lot more of the answers to people’s theories, and the fragments of information that people experienced through the main game.
As one can infer from this statement, the new information presented in Shadow of the Erdtree would enrich the character’s arc and make them feel more relevant to the lore. It would, perhaps, also fill in gaps and make the story feel more coherent.
