In May 2023, the Lovelace movie actress took to her Instagram account and posted a story in which she praised and gushed over Lily-Rose Depp’s performance in her recently released HBO Max series.

The titular show received criticism for its extreme level of s–ual scene depiction though the actress left no stone unturned while defending the young actress for her part.

In the story, Sharon Stone wrote, “I just watched the first two episodes of @theidol @lilyrose_depp and Abel (@theweeknd) r so sure-footed.”

She also praised the show’s director and co-creator and wrote, “#Sam Levinson addresses the root of crisis (sic) in entertainment; Which comes first, the brilliance or the heartache?”

The actress lauded Depp and her co-star The Weeknd —who both star in The Idol. Stone was one of the many stars who acknowledged Lily-Rose Depp’s performance, however, the show didn’t receive much love or praise from the critics and fans who slammed it by calling it “vulgar and nasty.”

“We actually drew from a lot of other influences that are not pop stars. We thought a lot about Sharon Stone in ‘Basic Instinct’ and the Gene Tierney and Lauren Bacalls … all of these women that were very inspiring to me for the role.”
