Katy Perry Announces Her Departure from American Idol After 7 Years
Katy Perry has been one of the judges in the reality TV series American Idol since season 16 in 2018. The show has pulled in a lot of audiences due to her star power and has been a big success. However, Perry made a shocking announcement recently that she would be leaving the show after her 7th year, with season 22 that started premiering this February.
In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, she made the surprise announcement and explained that while she is forever grateful for the show and the lovely experience she’s had throughout the years, she wants to branch out as an artist, go out more into the world and start creating new music again. She said,
“I love the show so much. but I want to go see the world and maybe bring new music. “I think this will probably be my last show, my last season for Idol. I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat.”
In the interview, she further revealed plans to perform in Brazil for the Rock in Rio festival. Her last studio album was Smile in 2020, which was four years ago.
