This happened when the actor found himself in a seemingly uncomfortably flirty position while working with a female chef host to promote his movie, Southpaw. And while Gyllenhaal tried his best to be okay with it and brush it off since he was on television, fans can’t help but express just how uncomfortable merely watching him this way is making them feel.

Jake Gyllenhaal Once Got in an Uncomfortable Flirty Moment With a Female Show Host

A few years ago, Jake Gyllenhaal appeared on the Spanish morning show ¡Despierta América! on Univision to promote his 2015 sport/action, Southpaw. During this, he starred in the La Cocina de Karla segment of the show where host Karla Martinez tried teaching him how to cook the Mexican snack tlacoyos con chicharrón.

However, little did they know how flirty the series of events would turn out to be. This happened when, after kneading the dough, they had to clean their hands. For this, Martinez offered him a towel to wipe off his hands, but the actor decided to go the traditional way and started wiping his hands on his apron.

Looking at him doing this, Martinez decided to pull off a funny move and copied his actions of wiping her hands on the apron — except that the apron she was wiping her hands off was that of Gyllenhaal. While initially, everyone laughed it off, things started to look uncomfortable when she continued to wipe her hands for too long.

Although she only meant it as a hilarious gesture to add that additional entertainment factor to the show, for the viewers, it looked anything but that as the Road House actor just stood there trying to laugh it off while failing to hide his discomfort at the situation. If anything, watching her continue her actions for more than 10 seconds had even the Gyllenhaalics finding it inappropriate.

Gyllenhaalics Found This Situation Incredibly Uncomfortable

While Jake Gyllenhaal himself tried his best to make it look like he wasn’t uncomfortable at how this situation was unfolding, fans couldn’t just let this go. Although the show host obviously meant no harm and only did that to make it look funny, fans still expressed how wrong it looked to even merely watch it onscreen.

All in all, taking to Instagram, here’s what they had to say on this matter:

Honestly, if a man did that to a woman, we’d be flipping out so let’s not act like it’s ok roles reversed. Hypocrisy won’t help quell the issue. He clearly looks uncomfortable but letting it rock. Doesn’t give her carte blanche to continue what she’s doing ~ @liisamarie_b

She did it for too long. The first time was funny but it became inappropriate after 20 seconds worth ~ @songz4uu

Mmmmm …. No he looks uncomfortable ~ @sarahmight1

Reverse the roles people, not so cute anymore ~ @joji__love

So inappropriate ~ @feelsandgoods

If it’s not okay to do it to a female, pls stop doing it to males 😒 this is so sick. ~ @vickyvictoria_____

Obviously, these fan reactions are as valid as ever, and so is the concern all these Gyllenhaalics expressed. However, it is also evident that the show host only wanted to make it all look funny and entertaining, thus, she pulled off this move. That said, all these fans might as well give her the benefit of the doubt.

You can watch Southpaw on Netflix.
