However, it was his role as Khal Drogo in the popular HBO drama Game of Thrones that brought him significant attention in the industry. Despite playing one of the noteworthy characters in the show alongside Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen, the actor once shared in an interview with the New York Daily News that he had reservations about his ex-wife, Lisa Bonet, watching the series.
Jason Momoa Did Not Want His Ex-Wife to See Game of Thrones
In an interview with the New York Daily News, Jason Momoa revealed his reluctance for his then-partner, Lisa Bonet, to watch the HBO drama Game of Thrones. The actor shared that Bonet was obsessed with the show and was adamant about watching it.
“I didn’t want my wife to see Game of Thrones, and she ended up becoming obsessed,” he shared. However, he did not want her to see the show, as the initial episodes of the series featured intense scenes between Momoa’s character, Khal Drago, and Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen.
“She was dreaming about it, she was so obsessed. It was like we didn’t go to the premiere. I was like, ‘I don’t do anything but do [co-star] Emilia Clarke for the first two episodes. I don’t even speak. We don’t need to go.”
Jason Momoa has been quite candid about his discomfort with the nature of his Game of Thrones character. The actor also mentioned it as one of the reasons as one of the factors influencing his reluctance for Bonet to see the show.
Jason Momoa Revealed Discomfort with Filming Intimate Scenes in Game of Thrones
While he did not want his ex-wife to see the show due to his intimate scene with Emilia Clarke, the actor has also shared that he was reluctant, especially due to the nature of those scenes. “It wasn’t the nudity, either. It was the rough manner in which Drogo made love,” he further stated during the interview.
Describing it as the most challenging aspect of filming, Momoa emphasized, “It didn’t feel good.” He even claimed that he had to emotionally distance himself from the Dothraki warlord in the show. While he has described it as part of his job as an actor, the Fast X star has also claimed that he will not take on a similar role again.

“I already did it. Not doing it again,” Momoa told The New York Times in an interview. While the actor might have felt uncomfortable with it, Lisa Bonet reportedly ended up following up with the show. Momoa and Bonet also recently finalized their split, citing irreconcilable differences.
