Miley Cyrus received FaceTime assistance from celebrity hairstylist Sally Hershberger in 2020 to fix her bangs. The days in quarantine were quite dull for some, so the Hannah Montana alum did what any sensible person would do when confined inside: she gave herself bangs. How did it turn out? It appears somewhat exotic, to put it mildly.

Famed for her audacious and out-of-the-ordinary decisions, Cyrus decided it was time for a makeover. But what started out as a stunning makeover swiftly devolved into a hair horror tale. She was upset and frantically looking for a solution after the bangs she had imagined turned out to be a disaster. However, the singer, 31, sought the virtual assistance of Hershberger when a mishandled haircut of her bangs put her famous hairstyle in danger.

Miley Cyrus Switched Up Her Hair in Quarantine

Always willing to take on new challenges and express her individuality, Miley Cyrus bravely decided to give herself a do-it-yourself bang trim at home during the 2020 quarantine. During one of her Bright Minded Instagram Live sessions, she did, however, quip that the outcome was more Tiger King than she had anticipated. But instead of letting it break her heart, Cyrus saw the experience as a lesson rather than a regret.

Famous hairstylist Sally Hershberger helped Cyrus out by virtually fixing her hair via FaceTime in order to help make things right. The former told POPSUGAR:

“Miley called and also commented on my Instagram post to let me know that she had butchered her bangs. The initial issue was that Miley’s bangs were too short and because she used thinning sheers, her bangs started to pop up.”

The Party in the USA singer took the call and chopped her bangs again, but this time Hershberger assisted her the entire way:

“I had Miley pull forward the section of hair around her face and put the rest back in a ponytail. I then took a pair of scissors and demonstrated how to twist each section of hair and nip off the very edges — less than an eighth of an inch. Miley then did the same and was able to reshape her bangs. Once we got through her bangs, I then had her create a middle part with the rest of her hair, pull it forward and just nip the bottom to give the overall haircut texture and connection.”

Hershberger said, “Just remember that less is more — do not pull your bangs straight down and chop them off”, if you tried a DIY cut and failed at it. Well, Cyrus’ confidence and sense of self-expression were restored, thanks to the power of virtual connectivity, which had come to her rescue.

Sally Hershberger Discussed Miley Cyrus’ ‘Modern Mullet’ Hairstyle

Miley Cyrus was born to have a mullet, said Sally Hershberger. The latter thinks the 31-year-old singer will always create trends rather than copying what others do. Back in 2020, Hershberger told Page Six Style:

“Miley’s mullet was inevitable — we both felt it. It’s fashion, it’s cutting edge and Miley has made it her own. She’s never going to do what everyone else does; she’s going to set trends.”

In the last few years, the Slide Away singer has changed up her hair quite a bit. Her current style has become even more choppy and shorter than her Hannah Montana character, suggesting that her upcoming music may have a strong rock influence. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live in December 2020, Cyrus revealed the reason behind her mullet hairstyle and the identity of the person who cut her hair during the COVID-19 pandemic:

“All of us have had to adjust, a lot of things shutting down, keeping us from doing our kind of standard routines, which one of them was going to get a haircut for me. So my mom offered, you know my bangs, I already had bangs were getting long. And [my mom] said, ‘Well I can cut your hair, but I only know how to do one hairstyle, and I’ve been doing this since 1992 for your dad and for your brothers’. And all my mom can do is a mullet so I had one option and needed it.”
