Mads Mikkelsen became famous for being the main antagonist, Le Chiffre, in James Bond’s Casino Royale in 2006. Then he went to star in Hannibal.

In 2016, Mikkelsen joined two major movie franchises when he starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. In Doctor Strange, he played Kaecilius — a sorcerer who turns to evil from the Dark Dimension. Whereas, in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, he appeared as Galen Walton Erso — the father of protagonist Jyn Erso.

The Danish actor is mostly known for his portrayal of negative roles. Yet again, he played another villain in Rihanna’s music video B*tch Better Have My Money. But before getting an offer to be a part of the video, the actor didn’t know who the famous singer was.

Mads Mikkelsen Didn’t Know Who Rihanna Was When He Got an Offer to Star in Her Music Video

In a seven-minute B*tch Better Have My Money video, the singer and her friends get drunk and later (cruelly) torture a woman (played by Rachel Roberts), accusing her of stealing money. Mads Mikkelsen plays the woman’s husband and Rihanna’s accountant. But things didn’t turn out well for him either.

That’s a little synopsis of the video in which the actor co-starred with the pop singer. In an interview with GQ, Mikkelsen talked about the phone call he got asking if he wanted to be in Rihanna’s video. He said:

“She had seen me in something—something Danish, I remember. I got a phone call asking if I wanted to be part of that, and it was fun and insane.”

The actor admitted he didn’t know who Rihanna was at the time on Jimmy Kimmel Live

“I was the b*tch. I got a phone call from my agent and they said ‘Do you wanna do the Rihanna thingy?” and I was like, ‘Who is this Rihanna? ‘”

Even though the Doctor Strange star didn’t know who the famous singer was, his kids definitely did. When Viola and Karl got to know that their father would be starring in Rihanna’s music video, they were on cloud nine.

Mads Mikkelsen’s Kids Were “on the Moon” When Their Father Joined Rihanna’s Music Video

In the same conversation on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Mads Mikkelsen said he doesn’t “know a lot of pop culture,” so he asked his kids Viola and Karl about Rihanna, and they “were over the moon.”

The actor added that he got “some brownie points there.” Mikkelsen also revealed that it was the first time his son ever asked him to go with him on a movie set, but he didn’t let him. Maybe it’s because Rihanna’s music video B*tch Better Have My Money is actually the first Vevo Certified video clip with an age restriction.

So, it’s clear why Mikkelsen didn’t want his son to be a part of it. This video is rated MA because it contains graphic violence, nudity, and adult language.
