Performing intimate scenes onscreen can be both challenging and hilarious for actors and Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite, comprising Olivia Colman and Emma Stone was no different. Despite experiencing a great time during the filming of the twisted period drama, the Lala Land actress wasn’t immune from suffering embarrassment while performing a s*x scene with her costar Olivia Colman.

Considering that Stone was concerned about accidentally touching her costar inappropriately, Colman decided to pull a hilarious prank on the Cruella actress to ease up her nervousness.

Olivia Colman left Emma Stone in complete horror through her prank

During her appearance in The Graham Norton Show, Olivia Colman opened up about the embarrassment Emma Stone felt during their intimate scene together in The Favourite. However, in order to alleviate the tension, Colman performed a hilarious prank on her costar, which involved her spooking the Easy A star with a wet sponge. The Father star explained that to make sure that Stone doesn’t accidentally touch her inappropriately, she put a wet sponge inside the sheets. Colman Said,

“Emma Stone was worried about me though because she had to touch me intimately under the sheets. In order to avoid finding anything you shouldn’t have found…. I put a sponge there and I said ‘it’s alright, there’s a barrier, you’ll be fine’… It was a big wet sponge. She was going up my leg and her face was a picture when she reached it! ‘It’s alright, it’s a sponge, it’s a sponge!’”

Despite the initial horror on Stone’s face, Colman’s prank worked out and turned the tensed-up situation into a hilarious one. But apart from the few concerns, the Lala Land star didn’t back away from taking tough decisions and even decided to go (semi) N*de to make the scene more authentic.

Olivia Colman was against the idea of Emma Stone going n*de for The Favourite

Following the story surrounding a dysfunctional Royal Court, The Favourite focuses on the love triangle between England’s Queen Anne, Sarah Jennings Churchill, and Sarah’s Cousin Abigail Mashan. And in order to make the s*xual scenes between Abigail and the Queen more authentic, Emma Stone vouched to go full n*de but Colman was against the idea. Emma Stone explained her reasoning by stating,

“I had the sheet up around me. And as we were shooting it and we did a few takes, I said, ‘Can I please just be [n*ked]?’ I think it’s going to give Sarah something to look at when she sees that I’m not just under the sheet covered up. Olivia was like, ‘No, don’t do it!’ Yorgos was like, ‘Are you sure that’s what you want to do?’ And I was like, ‘Absolutely.’ I chose to do it. I was like, this makes sense to me.”
