When Jamie Lee Curtis got cast in Jeremy Allen White’s The Bear season 2 as his mom, Donna Berzatto, the on-screen mother-son pair texted a bit to talk about the show but had never met in person until the day the shoot started.

The day that they finally met was the day that the Christmas episode for the show had to be shot. Recalling the “wonderful moment” when she came up to meet him, the Shameless star shared during the Just for Variety podcast:

“She [Jamie Lee Curtis] tapped me on the shoulder as I was in base camp. I turned around and she held my face and looked into my eyes for a while. Neither of us said a word. She gave me a big hug. And then, she just walked back to her trailer. We didn’t exchange any words.”

Even without exchanging any words with him, Lee Curtis made the environment around them so calm and comfortable through her strangely heartwarming method of connecting with him. As Allen White explained the meeting according to him:

“I think it was just her way of connecting with me in a real and caring way before Carmy had to deal with Donna in the way that he had to during that time in that episode.”

For what it’s worth, that just proves the terrific personality that Jamie Lee Curtis has — and even Jeremy Allen White agrees!

Continuing to talk about how Jamie Lee Curtis immaculately enacted the role of his mother in The Bear season 2, Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto portrayer Jeremy Allen White said:

“She was so excellent, so prepared. She understood Donna in this way prior to ever stepping foot on set… and she just knew. She just understood.”

In fact, he was so blown away by his on-screen mom’s tremendous performance that he couldn’t stop commending her remarkable abilities of perfectly stepping into her character.

“It’s quite a difficult thing to do, even for actors as established as Jamie [Lee Curtis] to step into a world and very quickly make a choice, flesh out a character, and fit into the environment that’s already been established.”

While jumping into a whole new world and in the shoes of a whole new character is indeed very difficult, as Jeremy Allen White explained, Jamie Lee Curtis seemed to have done it as effortlessly as though it was the easiest thing in the world.
