Young Valya Harkonnen dreams of restoring her family’s noble status. When a tragedy shatters her plans for the future, she finds herself on a new path that leads to the Sisterhood.”

The prequel series official logline claims that Dune: Prophecyfollows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit” This will occur “10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides.”

Original showrunner Johan Renck worked with the series, but the project seemed to have been experiencing so much turbulence at the time. It changed showrunners a couple of times before Renck took over and left in the end. He shared via The Playlist:

I was fiddling with that for a moment, but yeah, I’m not involved in that at all. At least, I think—I might still be an executive producer on it, but I’m not involved in it now.”

It’s a shame that he’s no longer attached to the series given how massive the franchise of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune has become. Still, Renck thinks it happens a lot in the industry.

The reason I got involved to some extent with Dune was that I’m a massive fan of the David Lynch Dune movie, the original one from the eighties,” the filmmaker shared of how he met the franchise. He further added that “there was a lot of stuff that was going on, but no one can be held responsible.”
