The One Piece live-action adaptation has lived up to the franchise’s name and provided fans with a great piece of art. The series lives up to its promise of epic journeys, intense action scenes, compelling characters, and famous moments from the highly popular manga and anime. Emily Rudd, who plays Nami in Netflix’s successful live-action series One Piece, has garnered a lot of praise and has undoubtedly become one of the fan-favorite characters. The first season followed the original manga until the Arlong Park Arc, which concentrates on the story of Nami, the crew’s navigator, emphasizing the character’s significance in the series.
Rudd has not only earned the appreciation of the fans but even the director of the series Marc Jobst has loved her work and praised her for her contribution to the series.
Marc Jobst Talks About Emily Rudd’s Contribution to the Series
Rudd has always been open about how big of a fan she was before getting cast in the show. In an interview with ScreenRant, when Jobst was asked about Rudd’s involvement and contribution from her fandom to the role that wasn’t already in the scripts, he said:
“Emily works in the moment, so I never felt like she was bringing baggage into the room. I only ever felt that she was always responding in the moment, and that is the greatest gift you can have as a director is when you have an actor who steps into a scene with another actor and listens and responds, but doesn’t say, “Oh, I don’t think Luffy would do that, or Sanji would never.” They’re just in the moment and responding to it, so I never know if she even had preparation for the scenes that she was doing.”
Jobst explained how listening and responding was the greatest gift for any director, and how she never got in the way of any scene or what they were doing. He even compared her to Henry Cavil and pointed out the similarity between both actors.
Marc Jobst Reveals Similarity Between Emily Rudd and Henry Cavill
While talking about Rudd’s performance, director Jobst explained how she was quite similar to the Witcher actor Henry Cavil and how they both let it inform in their performance. He said:
“If she was bringing her knowledge into her prep, I never felt like it got in the way of what we were doing on the floor. And, you know, working with Henry Cavill on The Witcher, Henry is a huge fan of The Witcher, he’s a big game player, and all the rest of it, and the great actors just let it inform their performance, they don’t let it dominate their performance. The other lovely thing about Emily is she’s beautiful, obviously, and Nami is a beautiful character, but she has so much depth to her being.”
Jobst explained how they were not just looking for beautiful actors but someone with a beautiful spirit, and Rudd was the perfect fit for the role.
