The Avatar: The Last Airbender universe has acquainted fans with quite a few Avatars, both incredibly deadly and terrifying, and super strong and kind. Two of these are Aang and Korra, the latter of whom followed in the steps of the former to appear 70 years after him in The Legend of Korra. And indeed, this Avatar from the Water Tribe is as exceptionally powerful as one can be.
In fact, Korra’s achievements are so remarkable that she could leave even her predecessors in awe. Yet, despite such unparalleled accomplishments, fans refuse to honor her with the title of being the strongest Avatar. This opinion of fans stands even stronger when comparing her to Aang, even though the immediate successor of Aang has some capabilities no one can deny are truly awesome.
Is Korra The Strongest Avatar? Here Are The Facts
The main protagonist from The Legend of Korra saga is the immediate successor of the main protagonist of the Avatar: The Last Airbender saga, who came about 70 years before her. Nonetheless, the former is a lot different than her immediate predecessor when it comes to her powers, characteristics, and personality.
An Avatar from the Water Tribe, Korra was a fierce one, even as a child. She mastered the arts of Waterbending, Earthbending, and even Firebending at the mere age of four. And that’s not all: The other bending skills she blissfully mastered include Airbending, Spiritbending, Metalbending, and even Energybending as well!
Adding to these arts is her proficient hand in the advanced skill of healing, through which she can immaculately increase the healing rate of her injuries on a drastically high note. Then there’s the fact that she is as ferocious in hand-to-hand combat as ever, and even has a tremendous resilience that allows her to break free from an art as dangerous as bloodbending.
On the other hand, Aang was the only Avatar of his time who could use all four bending arts that he learned within a year: Airbending, Waterbending, Firebending, and Earthbending. To top it all, he even became renowned for being the first ever Avatar to have actively used the ancient art of energybending (something that Korra mastered later on as well).
But despite being the first holder of many records and apart from these incredible skills of his, his capacity to act as a medium or a bridge between the Spirit World and the mortal world, and his Chi sensing ability, Aang didn’t have as unparalleled meritorious of a record of skills as his immediate successor from the Water Tribe.
Moreover, both the Avatars distanced 70 years apart even had quite opposite personalities. While Aang preferred to be peaceful and diffident both normally and while practicing his art, Korra was more inclined toward the tough and impatient panel as she was more assertive, headstrong, and even sarcastic; never backing from ferociously confronting people.
Plus, she was considerably more mature and responsible than Aang, considering how she fully embraced her responsibilities as an Avatar even at a young age while her predecessor initially ran away out of fear of his Avatar responsibilities disrupting his normal life. Thus, because of all of these reasons, Korra could be called stronger than Aang.
Yet, fans are hell-bent on their opinions, which state otherwise.
Fans Refuse To Credit Korra For Being Stronger Than Aang
Although all of the above-listed facts quite easily term Korra as being a lot stronger than her predecessor from Avatar: The Last Airbender world, fans just aren’t ready to bestow upon her the title of being the greatest Avatar. If anything, they aren’t even willing to admit that she is at least more powerful than Aang!
Taking to the comment section of the original tweet from the fan handle @korraandthekrew on X, who pointed out these distinctive and unparalleled achievements of Korra to explain why she should be considered the greatest Avatar, fans have been sharing their respective perspectives on this matter. All in all, here’s what they have to say:
she’s not even top 5

No one will be better than Avatar Kyoshi, maybe in power, but not in badass pic.twitter.com/zXKjRoMMZM

She is a prodigy, yes, but when it comes to discipline, that's something which is a HUGE difference between Korra and Aang. Aang also learned all of the elements within a year's time basically, and though he hadn't quite mastered them all, especially fire, he became pretty close.

If they wanted us to belive that they shoulda never gave this nigga Aang this feat. Nothing they wrote for Korra came remotely close to this action sequence and RAW display of power the way he was bending here is unmatched

Korra being able to bend water, fire and earth at 4 was just a chararistics she got by story line. But based on highlights of what she did, she is the last in number amongst the avatars. At least her era was soft life. No much challenges as the previous avatars had encountered

Crazy that she was able to do all that and still lost most of her fights

Aang literally ended a 100 year war, I don’t think he ever lost a 1v1 fight

While this debate continues to rage on, what’s worth noticing here is the fact that both Avatars have achieved some of the most impressive feats throughout their respective timelines. Thus, calling both of them GOATs (Greatest Of All Time) and ending the debate here could pretty much prove to be the most beneficial outcome of this debate.
You can stream both Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra series on Netflix.
