Christian Bale loves bikes and racing and had a blast cruising the streets of Gotham in his Batcycle during his feat as Batman. However, despite his love for the activity, he had to quit racing and performing stunts on his Batcycle at the insistence of his wife, Sibi Blazic.
Sibi Blazic, a former stunt woman herself, banned her husband from his favorite sport after the actor injured his hand in an accident and after the death of Hollywood actor Paul Walker in a tragic car crash.
Sibi Blazic Banned Husband Christian Bale From Riding His Batcycle
Hollywood witnessed the tragic death of actor Paul Walker in 2013 in a car crash. The incident made everyone realize the dangers associated with driving at a frightfully fast speed. While Hollywood was grieving, Sibi Blazic, wife of The Dark Knight star Christian Bale, forbade her husband from his favorite sport, Bike racing (via National Enquirer).
“Sibi has always had a problem with Christian’s love of fast bikes. She stopped him from riding them in the streets shortly after the birth of (their daughter) Emmaline eight years ago. Since then, Christian has limited his riding to the race track under very controlled conditions.”
The actor also had to cut down on his motorcycle stunts in his hit Batman franchise. The 2012 movie The Dark Knight Rises hence featured Christian Bale riding the Batcycle a lot less than he had in the 2008 movie The Dark Knight.
Furthermore, the aftermath of Walker’s death and an incident in December 2012 where Bale had injured his hand while riding made Blazic more paranoid, leading her to put her foot down.
Christian Bale Gave Up Racing For His Wife
Even though the decision to give up bike racing altogether was a very tough one for Christian Bale, the actor understood his wife’s paranoia all too well. Now married for more than 20 years, Bale having the utmost regard for his wife ultimately went along with it as the National Enquirer reported.
“Sibi doesn’t want Christian racing at all, and that’s going to be a real struggle for him. Christian is obsessed with racing foreign bikes, but he adores Sibi and hates seeing her so worked up over what happened to Paul. As tough as it is for him, Christian is going to quit racing for her. She rules their household with an iron fist, and his attitude is, she’s the boss.”
And so whether it comes to the Batcycle or normal bikes, Bale has been keeping his distance from the sport ever since.
