Lindsay Lohan and Tom Cruise? That’s definitely an odd pairing. But apparently, once upon a time, it could have been true. Cruise has already been twice married to Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. The Top Gun star is reportedly single nowadays but about a decade ago one bombastic report alleged that there were auditions held for actresses to be his wife.

Scientology and Tom Cruise is a marriage that has been stronger than any relationship the actor has been in till now. About a decade back it was alleged that the organization was auditioning actresses like Lindsey Lohan and Scarlett Johansson to become the Mission Impossible star’s wife. Lohan and Johansson later gave their views on that report.

In a Vanity Fair report, the site alleged that in 2004, Scientology chief David Miscavige’s wife Shelly Miscavige, was in charge of finding Tom Cruise a new wife. Apparently, Nazanin Boniadi, a London-raised and Iranian-born actress was selected and she dated the action star from 2004 to 2005.

After this controversial story, HuffPost reported that people have claimed that Scarlett Johansson and Lindsay Lohan’s names were also included in the audition list for potential wives. However, it looks like the two actresses didn’t have any idea about any such search and instead thought the meeting was about a role in the Mission Impossible franchise.

“Lindsay met with Tom before he met Katie (Holmes). At first, she was super excited to work with Tom and thought it was about a role in ‘Mission Impossible.’ It soon became clear that he wasn’t looking for an actress but something very different.”

The outlet also reported about Johansson that, “Another actress that was being considered was Scarlett. The whole thing was very strange.” The site hints that the organization indeed ultimately found a wife for Tom Cruise through that search- Katie Holmes.

However, a representative of Cruise denied the entire Vanity Fair report by calling it all lies made up to sell magazines. Then, Lindsay Lohan spoke up about the scandalous report.

Lindsay Lohan tweeted after that Vanity Fair report came out, saying, “I just want everyone & @TomCruise to know, that I have/had NO part in the VF story.. Nor has anyone in my life, personal and work-related.” The tweet has been deleted since then.

Apart from Lohan, Scarlett Johansson also denied auditioning to date or marry Tom Cruise at any point in her life after former Scientologist Brendan Tighe made that claim at Megyn Kelly’s show.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, she said:

“The very idea of any person auditioning to be in a relationship is so demeaning. I refuse for anyone to spread the idea that I lack the integrity to choose my own relationships. Only a man aka Brendan Tighe would come up with a crazy story like that,”

There’s no way to know if the Vanity Fair report (or any part of it) is actually accurate or not. After all, the parties mentioned in it have denied it and labeled it as false and there has been no worthwhile update on it in the years since.
