The Alien franchise, kickstarted by Ridley Scott in 1979, is one of the top science-fiction franchises of all time. Part of its appeal is not its science-fiction element but its bloody and spine-chilling scenes that are often disgustingly brutal to look at. While the previous movies have featured some of the most appealing scenes, Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus takes things even further by featuring several scenes inspired by the franchise’s previous iconic entries.

A standalone interquel set between Alien and Aliens, it is set 20 years after Ridley Scott’s foundational film and 37 years before James Cameron’s Oscar-winning sequel. Filled with several easter eggs, the movie has multiple revolting scenes that would keep even the most avid horror fans on the edge.

One scene in particular, as Isabela Merced had revealed to THR, was so gruesome that even the cast and crew had refused to look at it.

There’s a scene that I’m in, and they all had to turn away. Not one person stayed looking at that iPad because it was so disgusting,

While Merced’s interview dates back to February, fans now agree that she wasn’t wrong. After the film’s release, many revisited her comments, acknowledging that the actress was not exaggerating the intensity of the film.

Isabela Merced did warn fans about Alien: Romulus’s gruesome nature months before the film’s release. Filled with several memorable yet remarkably horrific scenes, Fede Álvarez did not hold back in going above and beyond to bring fans some of the most gut-churning experiences. While we do not know for sure which scene Merced was referring to as gruesome, many believe it was either Navrro’s chest-bursting scene or Elizabeth Shaw’s giving birth to an alien scene.

As Merced’s months-old comments resurfaced, many including the industry insider Daniel Richtman, stated that the actress was only telling the truth.
