Fans believe that she should’ve picked another more cunning character in the show as her hand over Tyrion Lannister. Fans criticized Tyrion for being bad at his job and blamed him for stopping Dany from invading Westeros when she had the chance.

Fans recently discussed why it took so long for Daenerys Targaryen to enter Winterfell under a clip of Emilia Clarke‘s grand entry in Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 1. The top comment shared that she should have made Lady Olenna Tyrell her hand instead of Tyrion Lannister. The fan sentiments came from one crucial moment earlier in the show’s seventh season. The comment read:

Had Daenerys made Olenna her hand and not Tyrion, she would’ve been sitting on the Throne on Season 7 episode 2.

In the second episode of GoT Season 7 titled Stormborn, Daenerys is planning her conquest of Westeros. Melisandre urges her to meet Jon Snow and Tyrion, being the hand of the Queen, vouches for him. While other members of her war council want to go on the offensive against King’s Landing, Dany is not willing to sacrifice innocent lives.

She instead goes ahead with Tyrion’s plan to besiege King’s Landing using allies in Westeros. Many fans believe that it was a poor move from Tyrion as the hand of the Queen. However, only Olenna Tyrell tells her not to blindly take her council of advisors’ word for it.

She tells Dany that she should trust her own instincts on how to proceed in Westeros. Many fans find this advice to be far better than the one given by her hand in the series. They wished that Lady Olenna should’ve been Dany’s hand all along.

Other viewers agreed with the comment, sharing that Olenna would’ve made a great addition to Dany’s team. One user shared that Olenna, the three dragons, the Unsullied, and the Dothraki made a formidable team. One fan shared that Tyrion was written badly in the show towards the end. Some of the fan reactions read:

Yup. olenna as hand of dani with 3 dragons, the unsullied, dothraki, and also the high garden…. It’d all be over quick

Tyrion was a terrible hand to Daenerys. It’s not really the characters fault though. Dumb & Dumber wrote him that way after they had run out of book material.
The Tyrion of the books is a genius. The Tyrion of the show started off smart and basically turned stupid at the end.

@imapotato8010

Funny how the man who burned thousands alive in Blackwater Bay suddenly decided that taking Casterly Rock was more important because “innocents”

@andreserra4094

can you imagine.. Taking kings landing without deaths is a far fetched fantasy

@Kevynmorgan

Watching that scene between Olenna and Daenerys, I can’t help the thought that it was as much the scene as Diane giving advice to Emilia.

@TheJadeJester

olenna was such a badass, loved her as a character

@user-pd6fk5ye3d

Because of Tyrion’s bad advice, the show ended up making Daenerys into a cruel tyrant and justified her killing at the end. The climax of the show was just in poor taste for many fans, who absolutely hated the finale season.

Lady Olenna Could’ve Been A Better Hand Of The Queen

As the elderly matriarch and last known head of House Tyrell, Lady Olenna Tyrell had been a mistress of court politics. She was a power player right from the start of Game of Thrones, marrying her granddaughter to two different kings, that too on the opposite sides of the war. She earned the respect of the viewers when she took out Jeoffrey without even a hint of suspicion on her.

Known for some of the coldest lines in the series, she went out with a banger of line in Season 8. In her dying moment, she told Jaime Lannister that she wanted Cersei to know that it was her who murdered Jeoffrey. Diana Rigg‘s performance played a lot in making the character a lot more likable despite her insane storyline.

The character deserved more in the final seasons, but all fans can wish for is for The Winds of Winter to do her some justice. Game of Thrones is now available to stream on Max.
