While the relationship between the two co-stars was first salty, they reportedly started dating after the film’s release and were together for two years. An industry insider reportedly told the National Enquirer (via Radar Online) that Mendes forbade Gosling from being friends with McAdams and disapproved of any mention of her.

If it were up to Ryan, he’d still be friends with Rachel, but Eva would never go for that. He still crosses paths with Rachel at industry parties, but he keeps any interaction short because he’s so afraid it might upset Eva…She would hear of something from other people and get on his case, even if it was the most innocent encounter. Eva knows Ryan loves and adores her, but she’ll always be jealous of Rachel.

The insider also mentioned that the Training Day star felt ‘weirded out’ by Gosling talking about McAdams as she was aware of their publicized ‘enemies to lovers’ relationship journey.

Ryan Gosling has become one of the most admired actors in Hollywood due to his hilarious and gentlemanly persona. He had his breakout role in The Notebook, which established him as a romantic star. While fans swooned over the lead pair’s impeccable chemistry in the film, Gosling and Rachel McAdams would reportedly get into screaming matches while filming.

According to director Nick Cassavetes, Gosling once approached him and asked for McAdams’ lines to be read out by a different actress. The actors then reportedly screamed at each other while filming which led Cassavetes to have a closed-door meeting. He told VH1 (via Time),

We went into a room with a producer; they started screaming and yelling at each other. I walked out. At that point, I was smoking cigarettes. I smoked a cigarette and everybody came out like, “All right let’s do this.” And it got better after that, you know? They had it out… I think Ryan respected her for standing up for her character and Rachel was happy to get that out in the open. The rest of the film wasn’t smooth sailing, but it was smoother sailing.

However, after the film, the two reportedly began dating and were in a relationship for two years.
