In the interview with Entertainment Tonight, Winslet confessed,

“I’ve barely seen her for 30 years since Sense and Sensibility, and I was a bit frightened of her now. I mean, God almighty, she’s got about 400 Oscars and is revered.”

Grant compared the experience to working with Meryl Streep in Florence Foster Jenkins or Nicole Kidman in The Undoing. Despite his concerns, he viewed Winslet as kind and steady during their collaboration, underscoring the test of standing his ground alongside such esteemed actresses.

With Grant’s candid confession, it’s clear that even seasoned entertainers like him can feel the tension when confronted with the daunting task of working alongside Hollywood legends. Meanwhile, not only Grant but Winslet also shared her feelings as she found herself starring in The Regime overwhelming.

The 48-year-old experienced the intensity taking on her role in The Regime. The actress, known for her chops, found the role quite extreme. One thing that attracted Winslet to the show was its script. She found the story and her personality captivating every step of the way. She told IndieWire,

“I wanted to do comedy. I loved the fact that, yes, it’s about a dictator, but she’s also a female dictator. It’s not a male dictator. And I knew the nuances and the feminine fragility that I could explore behind that mask.”

Even though the show had its amusing pieces, some moments got pretty serious, particularly when Winslet needed to get into her character’s head. To do justice to the job, Winslet looked for help from a star to figure out the character’s struggles.

The very reasons that made her pick the role were the ones that made it extreme for her. She’s done some challenging stuff before, similar to The Holiday and others, but, she positioned The Regime up there as one of the hardest. She revealed,

“I was so terrified because it was a very daunting task and so much dialogue. But honestly, the work and the prep that had been done by the creative team… I was reading it over and over and over and over, and more and more, and deeper and deeper, I found that that was the best way for it to sink into my bones.”

But in the end, eventually, she found the challenge rewarding. Despite her experience, Winslet felt the massiveness of playing a strong dictator in the HBO series, highlighting the role’s requests.
