The much-awaited film of the year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was finally released in the first week of May this year. It is the third and final installment of the franchise, which is getting lots of love from the fans. The superhero film is based on Marvel Comics; produced by Marvel Studios, and directed by the talented James Gunn. The release of the threequel brought an emotional end to the story, but it also spiked numerous topics of discussion among fans.
Those who have watched all the Guardians of the Galaxy movies have seen Peter Quill’s attraction towards Gamora. However, some fans have also tried to ship Nebula and Quill together. Karen Gillan addressed the topic in an interview.

It was shown in Avengers: Infinity War that Gamora was wiped off the universe when half the world vanished with a snap of fingers by Thanos. Numerous heroes who died due to Thanos’s snap returned, but Gamora could not. In the third part of the film, Peter Quill is seen drowning in the sorrow of losing the love of his life. But as the film proceeds, we see Gamora is back with the Time Heist that allowed her 2014 self to reach the present. However, having no memory of her relationship with Quill, their equation remained unresolved.
The last movie has created a buzz about making Peter Quill and Nebula a couple. Nebula is part machine and an anti-hero working with Guardians of the Galaxy.
In an interview with the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy by IGN, Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula, was asked about the love story between Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, and her. The actress replied,
“I think she has harbored a secret crush on him for years. When he finally noticed her eyes, she asked him to not look at her like that, and when he leaves the room, she seems to blush.”
If we go by the words of Nebula herself, there seems to be a buildup of the story, where Nebula and Quill would become a pair and lead the Guardians of the Galaxy team together.
James Gunn reacts to theory of love between Nebula and Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy
In the third installment of the series, the connection between Nebula and Peter Quill has become deeper. There are some fan theories about the probable love between them. Director James Gunn has also heard about these stories and shared with New York Times about Karen Gillan’s thoughts on the topic,
“I never thought about fully going there, but do I think that Nebula, emotionally, is sort of that mean schoolgirl who’s not going to show her feelings to anybody. Karen thinks that Nebula has a little bit of a crush on Quill that she doesn’t quite know how to put together, and it makes sense because as we come to them in Vol. 3, we realize that they are the two leaders of the Guardians. I think it’s very normal in any close friendship to have some sort of occasional romantic or crush-like feelings.”
Nebula’s character is practical and private, hence, even if she would have a crush on Peter Quill, she would likely not tell him.
Interestingly, throughout the runtime of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, there were some close-up moments of Peter Quill and Nebula. For instance, when Peter talks about Gamora he loved, present Gamora laughs it off and says it sounds like Peter is looking for someone like Nebula. They exchanged glances, and he also complimented her eyes. In another scene, Peter is shown drunk and he mistakes Nebula for Gamora and confesses love to her. Nebula looks heartbroken, which hints at her feelings for him.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is presently running in theatres.
