Kit Harington’s career-defining role as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones has been loved by audiences. The two characters were separated for most of the show and their paths only intersected in season 7. Thus, Harington and Clarke never bonded on sets as their scenes were shot individually. However, they did get to know each other by the time they did seasons 7 and 8. The Jon Snow star opened up about how their friendship evolved after the show’s end.

In a Q&A session at a fan convention, Harington revealed that he and Clarke were not close while being on the show. Once the show ended, they kept in touch and became very close. The Daenerys actress was also friends with Harington’s wife, Rose Leslie, and lived very close to them. Clarke would often come around to be a good and playful aunt to their kid. He said (via Business Insider),

I don’t think me and Emilia were that close during the show because we were always separate. But now since the show’s ended, we’ve become very close. Emilia’s very good friends with Rose and she lives down the road, so she’s over all the time and playing with my kid. We’re really close, me and Clarke.

The two stars also share a similar opinion about how season 8 of Game of Thrones wasn’t the best. They seem to be distancing themselves from the franchise as much as they can, even refusing to watch the prequel series House of the Dragon. The actor indeed wants to move on from his association with the show and focus on other projects.

The last season of Game of Thrones was a narrative mess and most of the cast including Kit Harington have acknowledged how rushed it felt. While the actor brought up the divisiveness of the show in his latest interview with GQ, he is also grateful to the show for giving him him his career-defining role.

Harington stated that he has been distancing himself from the Jon Snow image since the end of Game of Thrones. He acknowledges that the role will always be a significant factor in his life and credits the show for letting him meet his future wife and making some lifelong friends. The Jon Snow star said,

In some ways, you need to divorce completely from this previous thing, and we’re only a few years after it. The role will always be just such a significant factor of my life. It might very well be the biggest, most important piece of work I do. I met my wife on it. I have kids from it. Have some lifelong friends from it. I’m recognized in the street because of it.

After the end of his tenure as Jon Snow, Harington has starred in the MCU with 2021’s Eternals. Harington is now one of the leads in season 3 of HBO’s Industry. The actor will next star in the epic romance film Eternal Return opposite Naomi Scott.
