As the tweets suggest, most fans approved of Villeneuve’s comments and seemed to agree with the notion that most Marvel movies are repetitive and boring. However, some fans defended MCU movies and refused the director’s idea of all the movies being cut from the same cloth.
Likewise, some netizens also criticized Villeneuve’s comments by pointing out that his work on the Dune franchise can also be termed as copy-pasting from the source material penned by Frank Herbert. Irrespective of the discourse over his comments, Villeneuve remains a vocal critic of Marvel movies despite their overwhelming amount of box office success.
In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Villeneuve also stated that he would not be open to making a film in a universe created by some other director. Thus, Villeneuve implied that he would not be interested in directing an MCU film.

It has also managed to gross $498.1 million at the global box office, becoming one of the biggest hits of 2024.
