With her introduction into the Star Wars universe in The Mandalorian and Grogu, the actress is now on par with Keanu Reeves when it comes to the number of science fiction franchises that she has her fingers in. From classics like Aliens to the highest-grossing film in the world, Weaver has decisively left her mark on the science fiction genre of films.

Sigourney Weaver‘s most iconic science fiction role is definitely Ellen Ripley in Aliens. Other great franchises that she has been a part of include the MCU, James Cameron’s Avatar, Ghostbusters, and now Star Wars, as she has been cast in Jon Favreau’s upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu.

Similarly, Keanu Reeves has had legendary franchises to boast about in his acting resumes such as The Matrix, Bill and Ted, and Constantine. The actor is also set to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as Shadow and in an adaption of his hit graphic novel, BRZRKR, putting him in the same franchise count as Sigourney Weaver.

Weaver’s status as a science fiction legend only seems to be growing, given the slew of iconic roles that have come her way. The actress, thanks to James Cameron, has now been a part of some of the most successful science fiction films.

Speaking with Deadline, Sigourney Weaver revealed that she has come across some pitches for bringing Ellen Ripley back to the big screen, but none of them have excited her enough to want to go ahead with them. She said:

How much does the public really need or want another Ripley movie? I don’t really sit around and think about it, but if it came up, I would consider it. It has come up a bunch of times, but I’m also busy doing other things. Ripley has earned her rest.

While Alien: Romulus has been taking the box office by storm, the franchise does not seem to have any designs to stop. Romulus‘ success to bound to bring in renewed interest in the franchise, that is also carried by its sister IP, Predator.

While there seems to be a science fiction resurgence in Hollywood, with a slew of classic franchises getting another legitimate run at the box office, it remains to be seen if this trend sticks beyond the coming year, which will see other films like Tron: Ares and Avatar: Fire and Ash hit theatres as well.
