Step aside Silent Hill 2, there’s a new horror game on the way, and we can’t wait for it. Kidding aside, summer is stepping up to be the season of horror, and the more, the merrier.
More image previews of Bokeh Game Studio’s upcoming release have just dropped, and it looks as terrifying as ever. If you’re a die-hard horror fan, definitely don’t miss out on this one at the Summer Game Fest!
Silent Hill 2 Remake Isn’t the Only Notable Upcoming Horror Release
Slitterhead is an upcoming title from Bokeh Game Studio. You may not recognize the studio name, but you might recognize the creator behind it—Keiichiro Toyama.
Yes, that Keiichiro, who was the director, designer, and writer for not just the original Silent Hill (1999), but Gravity Rush (2012) and its sequels, as well as Siren (2003). Quite a few phenomenal credentials to his name.
Noguzi will be the debut horror title for his new studio, Bokeh, which he founded after leaving Sony Japan Studio in 2020. He took Kazunobu Sato and Junya Okura with him, who worked on Siren.
Coincidentally, he only formed the studio after speaking to Fumito Ueda (director of Shadow of the Colossus, Ico) who also formed his studio after leaving Sony Japan Studio.
A trailer for the game was last released in 2021 at The Game Awards, but it looks like we’re finally inching closer to a set release date. Geoff Keighley, the host of the Summer Game Fest, revealed that Bokeh is back with gameplay footage of the game. It’ll premiere at the showcase, so stay tuned.
What is Slitterhead About? Learn More About the Upcoming Release
There’s not a lot of information about the game out there, but an old interview from 2022 involving Keiichiro, Junya, and Kazunobu gives us a good glimpse into what we can expect.
The inspiration for the game comes from a combination of Hong Kong and the team’s past worth with Forbidden Siren, with the new title serving as a reinterpretation of the previous game’s concepts.
Others joke about Silent Hill 2 being an action game after the recent trailer, but it looks like Bokeh genuinely integrated action-combat into its new game as a way of appealing to a larger player base.
The game won’t appeal to only horror fans but also to those who normally don’t engage with it. Rather than a pure horror title, it expresses horror within other genres.
That being said, Keiichiro clarifies that the concept doesn’t solely revolve around killing enemies; there’s more to the game than that, which you’ll find out when the game eventually realizes. Here’s to hoping there’s a release date dropped at the Summer Game Fest.
